The Didache The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles【電子書籍】[ Alexander Roberts ]
|

The Church polity indicated in the Teaching is less developed than that of the genuine Ignatian Epistles, and shows the existence of extraordinary travelling teachers ("Apostles" and "Prophets," chap. xi.). This points to a date not later than the first half of the second century, probably as early as the first quarter.

The Didascalia Apostolorum That is Teaching Of the Twelve Holy Apostles and Disciples of Our Saviour【電子書籍】[ The Twelve Apostles ]

On the simple and natural Law.

GOD’S planting and the holy vineyard of His Catholic Church, the elect, who rely on the simplicity of the fear of the Lord, who by their faith inherit His everlasting kingdom, who have received the power and fellowship of His Holy Spirit [cf. 2Cor 13.13], and by Him are armed and made firm in the fear of Him, who are become partakers in the sprinkling of the [1Pt 1.2] pure and precious blood of the Great God, Jesus Christ [1Pt 1.17], who have received boldness to call the Almighty God Father, as joint heirs and partakers with His Son and His beloved [cf. Rom 8.17; Eph 3.6] hear the Didascalia of God, you that hope and wait for His promises, which hath been written after the command of our Saviour and is in accord with His glorious words.

[i. 1] Give heed, children of God, and do all things so that you be obedient to God; and be you pleasing in all things to the Lord our God. For if any man run after iniquity and be contrary to the will of God, the same shall be accounted unto God as heathen and ungodly. Flee therefore and depart from all avarice and evil dealing. And you shall not desire that [[4]] which is any man’s, for it is written in the Law: Thou shalt not desire aught of that which is thy neighbour’s: neither his field, nor his wife, nor his servant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing of his possessions [Ex 20.17; Dt 5.21]. For all these desires are from the Evil One. For he that desires the wife of his companion, or his servant, or his maidservant, is already an adulterer and a thief, and is condemned of uncleanness, as they that lie with males, by our Lord and Teacher Jesus Christ: to whom (is) glory and honour for ever and ever, Amen. As also in the Gospel He renews and confirms and fulfils the Ten Words of the Law, (saying):For it is written in the Law: Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you this,ーwho in the Law spake through Moses, but now myself (p. 2) say unto you: Whosoever shall look upon the wife of his neighbour to desire her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart [Mt 5.27-28]. And thus was he who desired condemned as an adulterer. He also that desires the ox or the ass of his neighbour, it is to steal and to lead it away that he is minded. And he again that desires the field of his companion, does he not seek to straiten him in his boundary, and contrive that he may sell it to him for nothing? For this cause therefore come slayings and deaths and condemnations from God upon these persons.

A Guide to Living in the Truth St. Benedict's Teaching on Humility【電子書籍】[ Michael Casey ]

This book shows us how humility brings a basic happiness that is able to cope with difficulties and sorrows. Casey translates the ancient wisdom of Saint Benedict into the modern arena of capitalistic competition. He also demonstrates how people must stop regarding others as rivals and be content with what we have because it is a waste of time to envy those who possess qualities different than our own. Humble individuals are content with both the gifts and limitations inherent in who they are.

Paperback

The Didascalia Apostolorum The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles【電子書籍】[ R. Hugh Connolly ]
|

Didascalia Apostolorum, or just Didascalia, is a Christian treatise which belongs to the genre of the Church Orders. It presents itself as being written by the Twelve Apostles at the time of the Council of Jerusalem; however, scholars agree that it was actually a composition of the 3rd century, perhaps around 230 AD.
The Didascalia was clearly modeled on the earlier Didache. The author is unknown, but he was probably a bishop. The provenance is usually regarded as Northern Syria, possibly near Antioch.
The earliest mention of the work is by Epiphanius of Salamis, who believed it to be truly Apostolic. He found it in use among the Audiani, Syrian heretics. The few extracts Epiphanius gives do not quite tally with our present text, but he is notoriously inexact in his quotations. At the end of the fourth century the Didascalia was used as the basis of the first six books of the Apostolic Constitutions. At the end of the 4th century it is quoted in the Pseudo-Chrysostom's Opus Imperfectum in Matthaeum. But the Didascalia never had a great vogue, and it was superseded by the Apostolic Constitutions.
The Didascalia Apostolorum, whose lost original was in Greek, was first published in 1854 in Syriac by Paul de Lagarde. In 1900 Edmund Hauler published the Verona Palimpsest which includes a Latin translation of the Didascalia, perhaps of the fourth century, more than half of which has perished. In 1906 Franz Xaver von Funk published the texts, printed side by side, of both the Didascalia and the Apostolic Constitutions, in order to show the similarities. A short fragment of chapter 15 has been found in Greek, and in 1996 another probable fragment in Coptic.
The Latin title Didascalia Apostolorum means "Teaching of the Apostles" and the full title given in Syriac is: "Didascalia, that is, the teaching of the twelve Apostles and the holy disciples of our Lord". The text never touches upon dogma but concerns itself entirely with practice. In comparison with the Didache, the Didascalia moved the main focus from the moral issues to liturgical practice and church organization.
The church officials are bishops, deacons, priests, widows (and orphans); deaconesses are also added, in one place rectors, and once subdeacons (these last may have been interpolated). Especially noticeable is the treatment which bishops are ordered to give to penitents. Even great sinners, on repentance, are to be received with kindness, no sins are excepted. The canonical penance is to be of two to seven weeks.
The heresies mentioned are those of Simon Magus and Cleobius (this name is given also by Hegesippus), with Gnostics and Ebionites. Against these, Christians must believe in the Trinity, the Scriptures and the Resurrection. The original Law of Moses (specifically the Ten Commandments) is to be observed, but not the Talmudic Second Law, Mishnah, which was given to the Jews on account of the hardness of their hearts. In addition, the Sabbath rest is given a symbolic content, and the Christians are admonished to instead treat every day as belonging to the Lord, but not to keep the rest literally.
The Old Testament is frequently quoted, and often at great length. The Gospel is cited by name, usually that of Matthew, the other evangelists less often, and that of John least of all. The Acts of the Apostles and nearly all the Epistles are freely employed, including the Epistle to the Hebrews, but the Apocalypse is not cited. None of these could be named. Besides the Didache, the Didascalia utilizes also other ancient Christian documents as the Acts of Paul and the Gospel of Peter.

Christ's Teaching of Judgment to Christians An Exposition of Matthew Chapter 7【電子書籍】[ David Rivington ]

Christ’s Teaching of Judgment to Christians

by David Rivington

The most terrifying words ever spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ were spoken to Christians, to His own disciples, when He said:

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:21-23)

What does Jesus mean? What are Christ’s warnings to professing 21st century Christians today?

This book is written to answer Christ's own teaching to these questions and God’s judgment upon every professing Christian.

“I know of no chapter in all of Scripture which needs to be taught and explained to Christians in this modern superficial and confused Church age more than Matthew chapter 7.”

- David Rivington

About the Author

David Rivington is a Canadian engineer and Bible school graduate who has served Christ as a missionary in Thailand for over 30 years, first with OMF and then as a “tent maker.” His exposition of Matthew chapter 7 addresses the needs of the modern 21st century evangelical church worldwide.

Watching Out reflections on justice and injustice【電子書籍】[ Julian Burnside ]
|

‘When put to the test, most people have difficulty identifying what justice is, especially when there is tension between proper process and a desired result. Due process is inherent in our conception of justice. But bad process can yield the right result, just as good process can produce the wrong result. The legal system is designed to produce justice. We call it the justice system ー sometimes un-selfconsciously, sometimes with bitter irony. It is designed to produce justice according to law. Whether it achieves that goal is not the subject of general agreement.’

In Watching Out, a successor volume to his best-selling Watching Brief, noted barrister and human-rights advocate Julian Burnside explains the origins of our legal system, looks at the way it operates in practice, and points out ways in which it does and doesn’t run true to its ultimate purposes.

He examines fundamental legal principles, such as the presumption of innocence, explains why good barristers defend bad people, and sets out legal remedies for wrongs done to individuals and groups.

The law’s reach is immense, and so is the territory this book covers. Legal aid, class actions, assisted dying, counter-terrorism, unjust verdicts, and the treatment of asylum-seekers are some of the contentious subjects dealt with here. There is also a compelling chapter on the plight of people who are bereft of legal remedies, living on the margins of society, and shocking examples of hate mail that Burnside’s defence of refugees has provoked.

Rich with fascinating case studies, and eloquent in its defence of civil society, Watching Out is a beacon of legal liberalism in an intemperate age.

Compassionately written, it places the discussion in the words of Christ, of Scripture and in the Church's rich tradition concerning the sacrament of marriage, relations between spouses and in particular the revolutionary 'theology of the body' of Pope John Paul II. It examines the many and varied influences and pressures placed upon marriage and married couples today. Researching of Vietnam Prehistory【電子書籍】[ Tr??ng Th?i Du ]
|

Based on my researching of Chinese Classical Astronomy and Text, this book is the latter version of the former "A New Approach on Old Issues Of Ancient Vietnamese History" - ISBN 9781310245367. The new name is "Researching of Vietnam Prehistory", ISBN 9781370154548.

By accessing and comparing vocabularies in the Sino-Tibetan and Austronesian languages, locating them in genetic maps with archaeological, cultural and bibliographic adjustments, we have figured out the meaning of important terms intimate to ancient Vietnamese history as presented below:

Vi?t 越 and ?u 歐 are homophones in the Han Dynasty and before, serving as transcriptions of Jiang - Zhe words by Chinese characters; originally and literally they mean water or water area, and their derivative sense is Country. They are similar to the word Qu?c, which means earth/land/soil, and the derivative meaning of which is Country. Accordingly it can be inferred that Vietnam means Southern Country or Southern Land.

L?c 駱 is equivalent and has a birth process similar to that of Vi?t and ?u, but belongs to the Tai-Kadai linguistic sphere, which matches the northeast region of the present Tai-Kadai language map. ?u L?c was formed as a result of the combination of ?u and L?c. It was also the indigenous name of the kingdom of Nam Vi?t founded by Tri?u ??. L?c V??ng, therefore, means the king of the country; L?c H?u - the Marquess; L?c D?n - The People of the country; but L?c ?i?n should be understood as paddy field, rather than country's field.

Hung King 雄王 is a word created at a much later time than Lac King 駱王, its element Qu?n 君 simply refers to the Chief of the nation/tribe whether of ?u Vi?t or L?c Vi?t origins. H?ng King as a term is similar to the Yan and Huang emperors of China, or, in a more specific and understandable comparison, equivalent to the Founding Fathers of America.

This book also affirms that Nan Jiao 南交 , Jiao Zhi 交阯 , Xiang Jun 象郡 , Jiu Zhen 九真, and Ri Nan 日南 are united concepts related to Chinese Classical Astronomy. While researching the meaning of Nan Jiao, Jiao Zhi, Xiang Jun, Jiu Zhen, and Rinan by using Chinese ancient astronomy, we accidentally figured out the non-superstitious meaning and how to establish the definitions of River Map 河圖, Lo Shu Square 洛書, Yin Yang 陰陽, Five Elements 五行 and Yijing 易經. According to the author, this might be the first time ever in the history of East Asia that the Chinese mysterious “holy grail” was discovered by using scientific method. Due to the digression of the book’s subject, the references are rough but they are more plausible and reliable than any illusory story that was put on the establishment of River Map, Lo Shu Square, Yin Yang, Five Elements, and Yijing.

The first meaning of Jiao Zhi 交阯 is the southern region located next to Nan Jiao南交. Next, Jiao Zhi 交阯 refers to a southern region sharing the border with the Chinese Empire. Within thousand years of southern expansion by different reigns, Jiaozhi located in Hubei of Western Zhou 西周. Before 239 BC, Jiaozhi located between Hunan and Guizhou. Until Eastern Han 東漢 time, Jiaozhi was officially appeared on the Chinese map as a province Jiaozhibu 交阯部 including Jiaozhi district 交阯郡 and eight other districts. During the reign of Qin 秦, Jiaozhi was Xiangjun 象郡. The Xiangjun region was confirmed as Jiaozhi by meaning and by astronomical pre-observation. Jiuzhen 九真 means “the root of the sun” which is similar to the Equator. Rinan 日南 (Sun south) means the southern region of the sun. In Rinan, the gnomon's shadow is always located in the south, which is the Southern hemisphere from Tropic of Capricorn to South Pole.

The above terms’ meanings will change the important details of China’s southern provincial history as well as Vietnam’s.

As science and politics engage in a never-ending battle over the environment, A Life of Grace for the Whole World re-claims the theology of salvation and redemption for all creation. Using the House of Bishop's Pastoral Teaching on the Environment -- the first statement on the environment from The Episcopal Church leadership -- as a guide, A Life of Grace engages participants in understanding how the call to care for Creation informs and deepens appreciation and love for God and God's work in Creation, and how that finds expression in the faith life of individuals and churches.

The adult sessions use Bible study, discussion questions, reflections on sections of the Book of Common Prayer, and other activities to encourage active learning. Each week participants are asked to reflect, in different ways, on their faith communities and their own spiritual journey and how they can find a more meaningful connection with God's active work among all creation.

The youth section, which parallels the adult sessions, encourages active engagement through viewing of videos, use of technology, and a range of activities. Exploratory questions for the facilitator allow for open-ended conversation and discussion of current events around environment and faith. Connecting the five-week session is the creation of a Tree of Life, which is added to during every session.

Both an Adult Booklet and a Youth Booklet enhance the experience of A Life of Grace, both within and outside of the sessions, with additional content, activities, and journaling space.

Branching Out, Digging In Environmental Advocacy and Agenda Setting【電子書籍】[ Sarah B. Pralle ]
|

Sarah B. Pralle takes an in-depth look at why some environmental conflicts expand to attract a lot of attention and participation, while others generate little interest or action. Branching Out, Digging In examines the expansion and containment of political conflict around forest policies in the United States and Canada.

Late in 1993 citizens from around the world mobilized on behalf of saving old-growth forests in Clayoquot Sound. Yet, at the same time only a very few took note of an even larger reserve of public land at risk in northern California. Both cases, the Clayoquot Sound controversy in British Columbia and the Quincy Library Group case in the Sierra Nevada mountains of northern California, centered around conflicts between environmentalists seeking to preserve old-growth forests and timber companies fighting to preserve their logging privileges. Both marked important episodes in the history of forest politics in their respective countries but with dramatically different results. The Clayoquot Sound controversy spawned the largest civil disobedience in Canadian history; international demonstrations in Japan, England, Germany, Austria, and the United States; and the most significant changes in British Columbia's forest policy in decades. On the other hand, the California case, with four times as many acres at stake, became the poster child for the "collaborative conservation" approach, using stakeholder collaboration and negotiation to achieve a compromise that ultimately broke down and ended up in the courts.

Pralle analyzes how the various political actorsーlocal and national environmental organizations, local residents, timber companies, and different levels of governmentーdefined the issues in both words and images, created and reconfigured alliances, and drew in different governmental institutions to attempt to achieve their goals. She develops a dynamic new model of conflict management by advocacy groups that puts a premium on nimble timing, flexibility, targeting, and tactics to gain the advantage and shows that how political actors go about exploiting these opportunities and overcoming constraints is a critical part of the policy process.

In His Deeper Work in Us, the importance of seeking the control and the infilling of the Holy Spirit is viewed as the key to living the victorious Christian life. Accordingly, Dr. Baxter states that “the New Testament emphasis is not so much on our being ridded of something (though that is necessarily included), but rather on being filled with a spiritual vitality and health that leaves the sin-disease no environment in which to thrive.” Drawing upon the writings of such stalwarts of the faith as D. L. Moody, Hannah Whitall Smith, Frances Ridley Havergal, A. T. Pierson, Samuel Chadwick, and others, Dr. Baxter discusses this all-important step in the Christian walk through both experience and Scripture.

Stepping Out of Self-Deception The Buddha's Liberating Teaching of No-Self【電子書籍】[ Rodney Smith ]
|

A prominent Insight Meditation teacher presents the Buddhist concept of “no-self” in an easy-to-understand way that will radically change your perspective on life

Anatta is the Buddhist teaching on the nonexistence of a permanent, independent self. It’s a notoriously puzzling and elusive concept, usually leading to such questions as, “If I don’t have a self, who’s reading this sentence?” It’s not that there’s no self there, says Rodney Smith. It’s just that the self that is reading this sentence is a configuration of elements that at one time did not exist and which at some point in the future will disperse. Even in its present existence, it’s more a temporary arrangement of components rather than something solid.

Anatta is a truth the Buddha considered to be absolutely essential to his teaching. Smith shows that understanding this truth can change the way you relate to the world, and that the perspective of selflessness is critically important for anyone involved in spiritual practice. Seeing it can be the key to getting past the idea that spirituality has something to do with self-improvement, and to accessing the joy of deep insight into reality.

Illusion's Game The Life and Teaching of Naropa【電子書籍】[ Chogyam Trungpa ]

|

In what he calls a "200 percent potent" teaching, Ch?gyam Trungpa reveals how the spiritual path is a raw and rugged "unlearning" process that draws us away from the comfort of conventional expectations and conceptual attitudes toward a naked encounter with reality. The tantric paradigm for this process is the story of the Indian master Naropa (1016?1100), who is among the enlightened teachers of the Kagyu lineage of the Tibetan Buddhism. Naropa was the leading scholar at Nalanda, the Buddhist monastic university, when he embarked upon the lonely and arduous path to enlightenment. After a series of daunting trials, he was prepared to receive the direct transmission of the awakened state of mind from his guru, Tilopa. Teachings that he received, including those known as the six doctrines of Naropa, have been passed down in the lineages of Tibetan Buddhism for a millennium.

Trungpa's commentary shows the relevance of Naropa's extraordinary journey for today's practitioners who seek to follow the spiritual path. Naropa's story makes it possible to delineate in very concrete terms the various levels of spiritual development that lead to the student's readiness to meet the teacher's mind. Trungpa thus opens to Western students of Buddhism the path of devotion and surrender to the guru as the embodiment and representative of reality.

Ten Gates The Kong-an Teaching of Zen Master Seung Sahn【電子書籍】[ Seung Sahn ]
|

Zen is famous for koans (called kong-ans in Korean, and in this book), those bizarre and seemingly unanswerable questions Zen masters pose to their students to check their realization (such as "What is the sound of one hand clapping?"). Fear of koans keeps some people from ever giving Zen practice a try. But here, through the experience of seeing a modern Zen master work with his students, you can see what koan training is really like: It’s a skillful, lively practice for attaining wisdom.

This book presents the system of ten koans that Zen Master Seung Sahn came to call the "Ten Gates." These koans represent the basic types one will encounter in any course of study. Each of the ten gates, or koans, is illuminated by actual interchanges between Zen Master Seung Sahn and his students that show what the practice is all about: it is above all a process of coming to trust one’s own wisdom, and of manifesting that wisdom in every koan-like situation life presents us with.

For more information on the author, Zen Master Seung Sahn, visit his website at www.kwanumzen.com.

Overweight students often suffer negative consequences with regard to low physical ability, skills, and fitness; obesity-related health implications; teasing and exclusion from physical education by their peers; and psychosocial and emotional suffering as a result of weight stigma. Widespread obesity and its negative consequences have presented an unprecedented challenge for teachers, who must include overweight students in physical education activities while striving to provide individualized instruction for diverse learners and foster positive learning environments. Educators stand to benefit greatly from specific knowledge and skills for reducing bias and including overweight students.

Teaching Overweight Students in Physical Education offers a compact and easy-to-read take on this problem. It begins by summarizing information on the obesity trend, weight stigma, and coping mechanisms. Next, it introduces the Social Ecological Constraint Model, which casts the teacher as an agent of change who is aware of and manipulates a variety of factors from multiple levels for effective inclusion of overweight students in physical education. Finally, it provides detailed strategies guided by the conceptual model for instructors to implement into their physical education classes. In all, this book provides a map for successfully including overweight students and offers practical strategies to help physical education teachers create inclusive and safe climates, and design differentiated instruction to maximize overweight or obese students’ engagement and learning.

Comprehensive, evidence-based, and timely, this book is tailored for physical education educators and practitioners, but will also benefit parents of overweight children by providing them with strategies for educating their children on how to cope with stigma and weight-related teasing.

Aquinas Ethicus: The Moral Teaching of St. Thomas, Vol. 2【電子書籍】[ St. Thomas Aquinas ]

St. Thomas is not only the king of theologians, but the prince of moralists, and it has seemed a pity that his own words on matters of daily practice should have been so long inaccessible to the English reader. Technical Latin is not attractive to those who are unversed in it, and the student of ethics might be easily bewildered by the large admixture of speculative theology in the Summa. In this translation the separation of ethics from theology has been carried out in the main, and the English has been made as simple as the subject-matter permits. This is volume two out of two and a a translation of the principal portions of the second part of the Summa Theologica including more than four hundred endnotes.

The Catching Of A Killer La job de "Ti-Luc Landry"【電子書籍】[ Josh Ouellette ]

|
On September 1, 1997, Ronald Lougheed’s body was discovered in a wooded area in Windsor, Ontario. He had been shot in the head with a single .22 caliber bullet. Initially, the police had few leads, but things started to come together when a local salvage yard operator informed them of a 1979 White Buick Riviera with traces of blood inside. The blood matched Lougheed’s. After arresting and interrogating the vehicle’s owner, Ken Legace, a member of Windsor’s West End Gang, police narrowed down their list of suspects to two: Wayne Joseph “Wahoo” Ross and William Murdoch Mackenzie, both members of the West End Gang. Now to prove their guilt. To do so, they needed someone who could infiltrate the West End Gang; someone whom the gang members would trust, who came from their home region of northern New Brunswick. Enter Josh Ouellette, a.k.a. Ti-Luc Landry: an undercover officer with the Bathurst Police Force. A veteran of many undercover operations throughout eastern Canada and a native of the same region as the crew of the alleged killer(s), Josh was the perfect man for the job. But catching Lougheed’s murderer would still be a difficult and perilous task every step of the way. Written from a vivid, first-person perspective, Josh details each stage of the operation, including the anguish and fear he experienced as he attempted to infiltrate the gang and bring Ronald Lougheed’s killer to justice. What emerges is a true crime story of the highest caliber that will keep you riveted right up to the last page.

Beyond the Rope The Impact of Lynching on Black Culture and Memory【電子書籍】[ Karlos K. Hill ]
|

Beyond the Rope is an interdisciplinary study that draws on narrative theory and cultural studies methodologies to trace African Americans' changing attitudes and relationships to lynching over the twentieth century. Whereas African Americans are typically framed as victims of white lynch mob violence in both scholarly and public discourses, Karlos K. Hill reveals that in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries African Americans lynched other African Americans in response to alleged criminality, and that twentieth-century black writers envisaged African American lynch victims as exemplars of heroic manhood. By illuminating the submerged histories of black vigilantism and consolidating narratives of lynching in African American literature that framed black victims of white lynch mob violence as heroic, Hill argues that rather than being static and one dimensional, African American attitudes towards lynching and the lynched black evolved in response to changing social and political contexts.

Since the beginning of his pontificate, Pope Francis has encouraged, inspired, and delighted those who have heard him preach. Especially fascinating have been his plain-spoken and insightful weekday morning Mass homilies. He has also offered the church a substantial contribution on the theory and practice of homiletics in a large section of his first major teaching document, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel). In The Preaching of Pope Francis, Gregory Heille, OP, introduces readers to the Pope’s preaching, his insights about the preaching vocation of the ordained, and his call to all the baptized to go to the margins as missionary disciples and evangelists of the Word.

Heille, a highly regarded professor of homiletics and preacher himself, offers an inspiring and practical resource for priests, deacons, and anyone involved in the ministry of preaching. He shares the Pope’s vision and example for the preparation and delivery of effective and engaging homilies and for laity invested in the Church’s ministry of the Word in a post-Vatican II pastoral context.

The Teaching of Criminal Law The pedagogical imperatives【
|

The Teaching of Criminal Law provides the first considered discussion of the pedagogy that should inform the teaching of criminal law. It originates from a survey of criminal law courses in different parts of the English-speaking world which showed significant similarity across countries and over time. It also showed that many aspects of substantive law are neglected. This prompted the question of whether any real consideration had been given to criminal law course design. This book seeks to provide a critical mass of thought on how to secure an understanding of substantive criminal law, by examining the course content that best illustrates the thought process of a criminal lawyer, by presenting innovative approaches for securing active learning by students, and by demonstrating how criminal law can secure other worthwhile graduate attributes by introducing wider contexts.

This edited collection brings together contributions from academic teachers of criminal law from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Ireland who have considered issues of course design and often implemented them. Together, they examine several innovative approaches to the teaching of criminal law that have been adopted in a number of law schools around the world, both in teaching methodology and substantive content. The authors offer numerous suggestions for the design of a criminal law course that will ensure students gain useful insights into criminal law and its role in society.

This book helps fill the gap in research into criminal law pedagogy and demonstrates that there are alternative ways of delivering this core part of the law degree. As such, this book will be of key interest to researchers, academics and lecturers in the fields of criminal law, pedagogy and teaching methods.
