The 1904 Entente Cordiale contributed to yet further radical changes to foreign, naval and shipbuilding policies, so that at the outbreak of World War One the French fleet was populated with limited dreadnoughts, many obsolete armored cruisers, an impressive array of torpedo boats and a fleet of submarines whose efficiency was however questionable. The book provides a complete overview of the French Navy from the establishment of the Third Republic to the end of World War One. French foreign and naval policy, shipyards and industrial organization, technological innovations, operations and shipbuilding programs are all described in the first part of the volume, while the second and larger part is focused on the different categories of warships, including their qualitative and quantitative evolution during the period of 1871?1918 and their employment during the Great War. Of these 28 were in the Order of battle at Jutland.＜/p＞ ＜p＞The order of battle of the Grand Fleet at the end of the war appears in the Naval order of 24 October 1918.＜/p＞ ＜p＞The actual strength of the fleet varied through the war as new ships were built and others were sunk, but the numbers steadily increased as the war progressed and the margin of superiority over the German fleet progressed with it. After the United States entered the war, United States Battleship Division Nine was attached to the Grand Fleet as the Sixth Battle Squadron, adding four, and later five, dreadnought battleships.＜/p＞ ＜p＞＜strong＞Admiral of the Fleet John Rushworth Jellicoe, 1st Earl Jellicoe, GCB, OM, GCVO, SGM, DL (1859?1935) was a Royal Navy officer. He fought in the Anglo-Egyptian War and the Boxer Rebellion and commanded the Grand Fleet at the Battle of Jutland in May 1916 during the First World War.＜/strong＞＜br /＞ His handling of the fleet at that battle was controversial: he made no serious mistakes and the German High Seas Fleet retreated to port ? at a time when defeat would have been catastrophic for Britain ? but the British public was disappointed that the Royal Navy had not won a victory on the scale of the Battle of Trafalgar. Jellicoe later served as First Sea Lord, overseeing the expansion of the Naval Staff at the Admiralty and the introduction of convoys, but was relieved at the end of 1917. The government's effort in November 2013 to violently disperse pro-European Union protests backfired, resulted in mass demonstrations in Kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine. For over two months, the government has alternated between attempted crackdowns against the protestors and conciliatory gestures. The most serious violence has occurred during and after a massive government crackdown on February 18, resulting in scores of deaths, mainly among protestors but also including some police officers. Ukraine has long-standing problems in attracting foreign investment, in part due to rampant corruption and other shortcomings in the rule of law. Living standards for many Ukrainians remain low. The government's dwindling foreign exchange reserves have raised the prospect of a default on sovereign debt in 2014, unless the government can secure new loans. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych made a last-minute decision in November 2013 to not sign a wide-ranging Association Agreement with the EU, due to heavy Russian pressure. The move was the initial spark for the anti-government protests that have imperiled the government's hold on power. In December, Russia rewarded Ukrainian leaders for their about-face on the Association Agreement by offering Ukraine a $15 billion loan. However, after an initial disbursal of $3 billion in December, subsequent payouts have been put on hold by Moscow due to uncertainty about Ukraine's future political direction.
