Chr., Prokop schildert die Pest um 541 - 544, Boccaccio beschreibt die Vorg?nge w?hrend des Ausbruchs der Seuche im Florenz des Jahres 1348, Alessandro Manzoni und Daniel Defoe verarbeiten die Erfahrungen mit der Pest im 17. Jahrhundert in Mailand bzw. London. Dabei gilt besonders die Beschreibung Boccaccios als eine der illustrativsten. Dabei ist dieses Werk schon fr?h gew?rdigt und gelobt worden. So erkannten schon Petrarca1 und Machiavelli2 die herausragende Schilderung Boccaccios. In der Rahmenhandlung des Novellenzyklus des 'Dekameron3' beschreibt er literarisch aber mit einem hohen Grad an Genauigkeit und Detailreichtum die Ereignisse jener Zeit. Ziel dieser Ausarbeitung ist es zu ermitteln, wie Boccaccio die Pestepidemie beschreibt und wie er sie literarisch einsetzt. Die Quellen, von denen ich Ans?tze und Gedanken der Novellentheorie ?bernehme, sind Werke von Degering1, Kunz2und Frau Caporello-Szykman3. Als Zusatzliteratur habe ich Werke von Elisabeth Arend4und Sergio Zatti5verwendet; dabei handelt es sich um Autoren, die das Decameron auf Einzelph?nomene wie dessen Thematik, Hauptcharaktere, Komik und Stil untersucht haben. In meiner Arbeit beziehe ich mich ?berwiegend auf Forschungsergebnisse von Herrn Degering und Frau Caporello-Szykman, die bereits umfassende Analysen zur Novellentheorie und ihrer Anwendbarkeit auf die Novellen desDecameronvorgelegt haben. Da mir die, von Corradina Caporello-Szykman vorgenommene, Aufteilung der ma?geblichen Analysepunkte bez?glich der Novelle in Boccaccios Werk sinnvoll erscheint, habe ich ihre Standpunkte teilweise ?bernommen. Im Folgenden werde ich zuerst auf einige Ans?tze der Novellentheorie eingehen, dann einige Merkmale der Novelle besprechen und auf die Position der von mir behandelten Novelle in der Gesamtheit desDecameroneingehen. Danach werde ich die Charakteristika einer Novelle an Novelle II, 3 desDecameronbelegen und zu guter Letzt noch einmal die wichtigsten Punkte zusammenfassen. Um herauszufinden, inwiefern die Novelas ejemplares von Boccaccios Decameron beeinflu?t sein k?nnten, werden zun?chst die Novellen beider Werke allgemein und im Anschlu? daran der Pr?logo al lector der Novelas ejemplares mit dem Proemio sowie der Conclusione dell´autore des Decameron, also die Teile des jeweiligen Werkes, die sich explizit an den Rezipienten richten, miteinander verglichen.
