Launched into public consciousness by two John Peel sessions and a Melody Maker front cover in the early 1980s, poet, musician, journalist and political activist Attila The Stockbroker has spent forty years touring the world performing his unique brand of spoken word, poetry and music. Having played almost four thousand gigs in twenty four countries, releasing countless books and records along the way, Attila is now viewed as the godfather of the British spoken word scene.

'Heart On My Sleeve' brings together Attila's collected poems and lyrics, celebrating the fortieth anniversary of his first appearance and a lifetime doing what he loves. All his early political punk poetry classics are here, the likes of 'A Bang And A Wimpy', 'Russians In The DHSS' and 'Contributory Negligence', alongside more recent favourites such as 'Asylum-Seeking Daleks', 'Poison Pensioner' and 'The Bible According to Rupert Murdoch'. As such, this collection is testimony to Attila's broadening work over the years, packed full of intensely personal pieces alongside political satire and humour. 'Never Too Late', explores his reconciliation with his stepfather after thirty-seven years (as featured on Radio 3's 'The Verb' and Steve Lamacq's 6Music show), whilst listeners to Radio 4's 'Poetry Please' may recall 'The Long Goodbye', the epic, fourteen minute poem to Attila's mother as she battled Alzheimer's Disease, which was twice broadcast on the show.

Featuring over a hundred and eighty works hand-picked by Attila himself, 'Heart On My Sleeve' is a must-read compendium of social commentary, human observation and humour, all of it written with a passion and enthusiasm which only seems to grow as Attila passes through the years.

The Pope Vs. Attila the Hun【電子書籍】[ Charles L. Mee Jr. ]

When Pope Leo rode out of Rome in 452 to meet Attila the Hun, he had no arms, no army, no bodyguards, no great retinue of ambassadors and advisers. Only a few churchmen and lesser officials of the enfeebled and fading Roman Empire accompanied him. Attila came to the encounter leading a large, well-armed, battle-hardened army of Huns on horseback. Having plundered northern Italy, they were on their way south with the apparent intention of sacking Rome. Leo had to convince Attila to spare the center of Western civilization. Here, in this essay by award-winning historian Charles L. Mee Jr. is the surprising story of that fateful encounter and its aftermath.

Attila the Hun A Captivating Guide to the Ruler of the Huns and His Invasions of the Roman Empire【電子書籍】[ Captivating History ]

If you want to discover the captivating history of Attila the Hun, then keep reading...

In the popular imagination, Attila the Hun is among the most barbaric leaders ever. His warriors have the reputation of being ruthless, cruel, and bloodthirsty, as the Huns are believed to have been savages lacking any semblance of civilized culture.

The Huns raped and pillaged with abandon whenever the opportunity arose, and their raids into lands poorly protected by military outposts in the crumbling Roman Empire became legendary. The Huns under the command of Attila are thought to have been largely responsible for the collapse of the Roman Empire and the commencement of the Dark Ages in Europe.

The reputation of Attila and his people, the Huns, is at odds with reality. But examining the few historical records of his character and deeds reveals quite a different story. It is true that he was a calculating leader who was skilled at unleashing his fierce fighters when necessary. It is also recorded in history that he was a continual thorn in the side of the Romans. However, placed in historical context, Attila acted in ways that were common among leaders, both Roman and barbarian, in the first half of the 5th century. What is extraordinary about him were his uncanny abilities in negotiations with superior powers, his capacity for matching and exceeding his enemies in duplicitous behavior, and his successes as a military tactician on the battlefield.

In Attila the Hun: A Captivating Guide to the Ruler of the Huns and His Invasions of the Roman Empire, you will discover topics such as:

The Origins of Attila and the Huns

The Wars of the Huns Before Attila

An Alliance Between the Huns and the Romans

Attila Attacks the Byzantines

Attila Attacks the Byzantines Again

Attila Foils a Byzantine Plot

Attila's Diplomatic Strategy Evolves in the West

Attila Raids Gaul

Attila Raids Italy

The Disintegration of Attila's Kingdom

And much, much more!

So if you want to learn more about Attila the Hun, scroll up and click the "add to cart" button!

Sociomaterial Practices in Medical Work An Ethnography in the Operating Room【電子書籍】[ Attila Bruni ]

This book presents a sociomaterial perspective on work and organizational practices within the operating room. Looking at medical work from a sociological perspective and drawing on ethnographic observations conducted in a hospital's operating block, this book analyses the entanglements of humans and technologies in the execution of everyday activities. It highlights how the sociomateriality of work and organizational practices manifests in the encounters between operators and material artifacts and inthe way objects and technologies participate in processes and practices of organizational communication. Objects and technologies are also shaped by these very practices, giving rise to a recursive relationship wherein technology, communication, and organizing are intertwined.

A sociomaterial understanding of organizational and working practices explains the role of objects and technologies in the generation and enactment of professional knowledge, while questioning how power materializes through the interaction of humans and technical objects. This book will be of great interest to scholars, students, and practitioners interested in how sociomaterial perspectives can inform organization studies and reshape our understanding of the intricate relationships between humans and technologies in healthcare settings.

THE BOOK THAT HAPPENED - Is Reality but Sheer Coincidence?【電子書籍】[ Attila Pergel ]

This is the book of awkward questions.

It doesn't promise easy entertainment-it provides understanding at a level that we never reached in school.

Do the past, present, and future exist?

What are miracles made of?

Why can't science define what time truly is?

Is it that simple to understand infinity?

You will find a multitude of logical deductions and thought experiments in this book. You will realize how astonishingly wonderful our reality is. This book aims to provide an understanding of the universe. It will help you understand time and space, dimensions, infinity, and coincidence.

Did the universe simply happen? By sheer chance? And the people in it? Are we just a product of coincidence? Or were we called to existence by some higher power?

The answers will be provided by you-the reader. The book brings up a series of questions that spark up thoughts, inspire, provoke, and point out contradictions and paradoxes. It doesn't try to persuade you. It doesn't shove the author's truth down your throat.

It shows things. It reveals things.

It shows that one inch is extremely far from being an exact distance measurement. It reminds you that the speed of an arrow shot from a truck, equals the truck's and its own speed, whereas the same logic doesn't work with a ray of light.

The book takes the scientific definitions of time, space, geometric points, and line segments - and shows you their incompetence. You'll see how ungrounded of a scientific base we have, and yet we build our daily lives on it.

Can you define the present time? What really is the present? Just think about it: you started reading this blurb half a minute ago: in the past. You will pay for the book in five minutes: in the future. Right? And now? Are you reading at home, having bought the book two hours ago?

Only one thing is for sure: you are a winner if you can talk about reading The Book that Happened in the past tense. Come along now. Start the adventure with Attila Pergel and get your ticket for this fantastic journey that will send you flying from the atomic nucleus to the edge of the universe!

Attila, often referred to as Attila the Hun, was the ruler of the Huns from 434 until his death in 453. He was leader of the Hunnic Empire, which stretched from the Ural River to the Rhine River and from the Danube River to the Baltic Sea. He was one of the most feared enemies of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires. He crossed the Danube twice and plundered the Balkans, but was unable to capture Constantinople. He attempted to conquer Gaul (modern France), crossing the Rhine in 451 and marching as far as Aurelianum (Orl?ans) before being defeated at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains. Subsequently he invaded Italy, plundering the northern provinces, but was unable to take Rome. He planned for further campaigns against the Romans but died in 453. Attila and His Conquerors: A Story of the Days of St. Patrick and St. Leo the Great【電子書籍】[ Elizabeth Rundle Charles ]

They sat together on a crag close to their home, the young brother and sister, Baithene and Ethne, only son and daughter of a chieftain of the great clan O’Neill. Prince and princess they might have been called in legendary story, and their father and mother king and queen. For there were many kings in Ireland in those early centuries, as afterwards many saints. And yet neither of these great titles, though counted by the score, were unmeaning. The saints were men and women vowed and consecrated to a holy life of devotion and service:ーa true aristocracy in the Church. Homage was rendered them because nobleness was expected of them. And the kings were distinguished as really, in the minds of their people and clan, from all beneath them, as men of another stamp and metal from the rest, with a royal superscription. To serve them was honour; to obey them was imperative necessity and sacred duty; to live for them was life worth living; to die for them was death worth dying. Conan, king or chief of one branch of the O’Neills, father of Baithene and Ethne, and his wife, however poor their palace and small their kingdom, were served and honoured with a free, unquestioning loyalty altogether unknown in the servile, mercenary courts of their contemporary sovereigns in the palaces of Constantinople or Ravenna. Therefore these childrenーfor they were scarcely more, the boy seventeen, the maiden sixteenーhad been surrounded from infancy with an atmosphere of loving homage. Their home, outside which they sat, overlooking the sea, was not much better than a settler’s lodge, built of mud and timber, with rough unhewn stones; yet it was essentially a palace, for those who dwelt in it were acknowledged to be royal. Outside, on the hill below, some of the clansmen guarded it night and day, and no stranger could enter unchallenged; it was the hall of feasting, the gathering-place for battle, the seat of judgment for the people. Except the brother and sister, and the guard watching on the hillside, out of sight at that moment, every one was asleep. For it was late; the sun had set an hour or two, the moon was making her long path of silvery light on the waves below, and the youth and maiden sat together in the soft evening air clad in the sacred white robes, Ethne still with the white veil on her head. For this had been a great day for them. There had been a Christian baptism on the hill of Tara, a few miles away, and in the well on the hillside the brother and sister, with their mother, had been baptized by the great missionary Patrick into the Christian name; and also, at the same time, numbers of their people, among them many of the Druids and bards, the priests and poets of their race. Their father had been present, but could not himself yet enter that solemn gate. He had too many wars on hand; too many clan wrongs that could not forego vengeance; too many enemies whom he was not quite clear he could include in the great peace which the Christ was said to bring. He was too sure of the rough work that might have to be done outside that gate of baptism, too doubtful of the kind of world he might find within, to venture yet to enter. But the message the Gallo-Roman bishop brought seemed so great, and from Powers so great, the story of compassion and sacrifice so beautiful, and his wife had adopted it with such joy, that he could not refuse that she and the children should enter a world that seemed so fair. The mother had remained at Tara, with her husband and the chieftains, for the night; and the children were alone in the house, under the charge of the old nurse, with the rest of the household. “I felt the bishop’s hands rest on my head,” said Baithene, in a low tone, “and his deep voice went through me. The words were Latin, but I think I understood most of them.

Declining Democracy in East-Central Europe The Divide in the EU and Emerging Hard Populism【電子書籍】[ Attila ?gh ]

The dramatic decline of democracy in East-Central Europe (ECE) has attracted worldwide attention, presenting a significant challenge to European models of liberal democracy. This timely book tackles the heart of this region's complexity, unpacking the socio-economic, political and cultural developments of the ECE countries.

Attila ?gh demonstrates the key turning point in 2010, when the region's political trajectory shifted from chaotic democracy to authoritarian rule. Attila the Hun Arch-Enemy of Rome【電子書籍】[ Ian Hughes ]

A biography of the notorious tribal leader whose empire challenged the Romans.

Most know the name Attila the Hunーbut few are familiar with the full history behind this historical figure. Rising to the Hunnic kingship around 434, he dominated European history for the next two decades. Attila bullied and manipulated both halves of the Roman Empire, forcing successive emperors to make tribute payments or face invasion.

Here, Ian Hughes recounts Attila's rise to power, attempting to untangle his character and motivations so far as the imperfect sources allow. A major theme is how the two halves of the empire finally united against Attila, prompting his fateful decision to invade Gaul and his subsequent defeat at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plain in 451. Integral to the narrative is analysis of the history of the rise of the Hunnic Empire; the reasons for the Huns' military success; relations between the Huns and the two halves of the Roman Empire; Attila's rise to sole power; and Attila's doomed attempt to bring both halves of the Roman Empire under his dominion.

In Florida with Fulbright How to get a scholarship to the States?【電子書籍】[ Attila Csontos ]

It never occurred to me for all these years to write a book or an e-book about those years regarding my foreign adventures. I found a picture one night 12 years after my Florida trip. It took me a long time to recollect exactly where and when this picture was taken.
I was a little shocked, since I had so many awesome and intensive experiences that enriched my life during those two years.

What if there comes a time when all my experiences have become so vague that there are only sentimental pictures that remain and I will not be able to tell my story of those two years to my children.

I decided to write out all my thoughts, so that at least those memories that are still vivid now will remain for a while. All the old pictures, documents, maps and other miscellaneous items brought the old memories back to the forefront. I was able to relive the places, even though they were only memories that I lived through over a decade ago.

Of course at this time, I had no idea that my past would some day be publicized for others to read.

After I made my decision, my mood has suddenly changed and I became more energized and happy. There were people who asked what happened to me, since they see me smiling constantly.

On one occasion, I talked to an acquaintance of mine when my tongue slipped: he found out that I have an impending "publication" regarding my Florida trip. He was constantly nudging me until he succeeded in finally persuading me to send him my handwritten notes.

He called me a couple of days later and was ready to jump out of his skin from the excitement saying: "Atti, this is fantastic - super-good!" His excitement and exuberance really surprised me. He continued with "You have to publish this; this has to go into production! Other than the fact that this is not an everyday narration, it is simply full of so much information that is assembled all in one place, which cannot be found anywhere."

Thus, it suddenly occurred to me for the first time that it might be worth sharing my story with others.

If you find yourself answering "yes" to only a couple of the following questions, then it will be worth your while to read this story:

- Would you like to know more about the USA, Florida?
- Would you like to get a realistic assessment of life there?
- Are you curious to know what Americans are really like?
- Would you like to learn if it is worth going through the application process for a foreign scholarship, such as the Fulbright?
- Are you curious to know what to expect when you take the TOEFL examination?
- Would you like to know what it takes to apply for a foreign scholarship?
- Is it worth getting a doctorate degree?
- And much, much more information that is available on 270 pages…

Enjoy reading my book! I do hope you will find valuable and useful information in it!

The Cambridge Companion to the Age of Attila【

This book examines the age of Attila, roughly the fifth century CE, an era in which western Eurasia experienced significant geopolitical and cultural changes. The Roman Empire collapsed in western Europe, replaced by new 'barbarian' kingdoms, but it continued in Christian Byzantine guise in the eastern Mediterranean. New states and peoples changed the face of northern Europe, while in Iran, the Sasanian Empire developed new theories of power and government. At the same time, the great Eurasian steppe became a permanent presence in the European world. This book treats Attila, the notorious king of the Huns, as both an agent of change and a symbol of the wreck of the old world order.

While for the firmly entrenched; I offer a reality popping nightmare of foundation breaking information. Either way; where ever your current perspective sits, I reckon to challenge it, from the heart and for damn good reasons!

P.S: Please find included one hopefully amusing and enlightening poem to begin; accompanied with a fictional rant by God for a parting attempt at heartfelt mirth! I leave you with an additional quote from the book; "Did a scientist just streak through the Church and wink at that cute Nun in the front row?"……………..and I dare say I think she winked back!! The Secret Of Intelligible Light Q&A The Ultimate Q&A About Life【電子書籍】[ Attila Vincent ]

These are the questions we all have about life. Some of us are afraid to ask them, some of us are convinced there are no good answers to these questions, and still yet others are too distracted by life to consider asking them. Somewhere ? greed plays into this too as a root emotion. Me, Me, Me!!!!!

The pain and suffering of life however; is trying to tell us something. Something we missed. Often when we suffer a personal event called a "dark night" (a moment of personal crises and subsequent reckoning) such as I did; we get it. Often when we face our mortality ? we get it. Birth, death, and difficulty believe it or not ? are the path to the truth!

Some of this information was the result of several near death experiences I had personally. Walking between the worlds ? as it is commonly called. The near death experiences I had, and others have had, are well documented. We just don't believe them given our societal mindset.

Other than my personal experiences, and the documented experiences of others; there are volumes of spiritual information on this subject. The problem is that religions and bibles all contradict each other severely ? or so it seems at first. The mainstream belief systems remain mostly at odds with each other, regarding the same truth.

So where can we find answers to the big questions in life? What are all these different belief systems trying to tell us about the same ultimate truth? Other than surviving a death event and experiencing it first hand ? how can we find out the truth about spirit and mortality?

I have assembled the best information I could find regarding these topics during my research to explain what I experienced. I didn't get stuck in any single belief system. In fact I found that allowing ourselves to be confined within a single belief was the greatest trapping and hindrance to obtaining the truth.

At first I considered every belief system I could find on its own merits to explain my experiences. That didn't work. Then I considered all of the separate belief systems as a single premise ? and started to get results. Then I took it a step farther.

What did the Ancient Mystery School Teachings have to say on these subjects? Upon closer scrutiny, I soon discovered a dirty little secret. The Guardians of the Great Truth; and the Purveyors of the Great Lie ? are the same bunch!

To start with ? behind every mainstream religion we currently acknowledge ? was an Ancient Mystery School! The fact is that any religion you might choose to embrace; had a great, great, great, grand pappy! Here it is in a nutshell! Every religion has a more ancient teaching behind it! And here is the good part ? they are all the same ancient teaching! The roots of every religion are connected to the same tree!

So don't let anyone convince you with romanticized parables and spiritual euphemisms; that they have the only correct path to genuine spirituality. All these separate paths to spirituality are the same path. I'd best tell you more about the roots of all our separate beliefs first.

A brief History lesson will be required. Human civilization didn't start with the Egyptians. All the supposedly first societies in our bogus history books were nowhere near the first. This monkey show has been going on way longer than we think. Given this corrective lens; we must ask ? "Who was here long before us ? and what did they know (especially about the above subjects about life)?

The Scourge of God: The Lives and Legacies of Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan【電子書籍】[ Charles River Editors ]

*Includes maps of Genghis Khan's and Attila's empires and pictures depicting the two men and other important people and places in their lives.*Discusses legends and controversies surrounding the lives, deaths, and legacies of Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan.*Includes a Bibliography of each man for further reading.*Includes a Table of Contents. Attila, Emperor of the Hunnic Empire and thus most commonly known as Attila the Hun, is an idiosyncratic figure who has become more myth than man, not least because much of his life is shrouded in mystery. Perhaps the most famous barbarian in history, Attila was the lord of a vast empire spanning two continents and was often referred to as the Scourge of God, but he is best remembered for what he did not conquer. Though he seemingly had Rome at his mercy in 452, he ultimately decided not to sack the Eternal City, and a year later he had suffered a mysterious death. What is known about Attila came mostly from Priscus, a guest of his court who wrote several books about Attilas life in Greek. Unfortunately, much of that work was lost to history, but not before the ancient writer Jordanes relied on it to write his own overexaggerated account of Attilas life. And like their leader, the Huns themselves are an instantly recognizable name with mysterious origins; most of what is known about the Huns came from Chinese sources thousands of miles and an entire continent away from Italy. Naturally, the dearth of information and the passage of time have allowed myths and legends to fill in the most important details of Attilas life. Why did a man at war with the Roman Empire for so long decide not to sack Rome in 452? Did a meeting with Pope Leo the Great convince him to spare the capital of the Western half of the empire? Did a vision from St. Peter induce Attila to convert to Christianity? Was Attila murdered by his new bride? Many authors and chroniclers have provided many answers to the many questions, but the lack of answers has allowed Attila to become the face of ancient barbarity and the embodiment of the furious nomadic conqueror. In a world fascinated by men like Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan is one of historys greatest and most famous conquerors. No man, before or since, has ever started with so little and gone on to achieve so much. From a noble family but raised in poverty that drove him to the brink of starvation, Genghis Khan rose to control the second-largest empire the world has ever known (the largest being, arguably, the British Empire of the 18th and 19th centuries), and easily the largest empire conquered by a single man. And while many empires disintegrate upon the death of an emperor, like Attilas, Genghis Khans empire endured and was actually enlarged by his successors, who went on to establish dynasties that in some cases lasted for centuries.Though history is usually written by the victors, the lack of a particularly strong writing tradition from the Mongols ensured that history was largely written by those who Genghis Khan vanquished. Because of this, Genghis Khans portrayal in the West and the Middle East has been extraordinarily (and in many ways unfairly) negative for centuries, at least until recent revisions to the historical record. He was far more complex than the mere brute that his negative portrayals indicate. The Scourge of God discusses the facts, myths, and legends surrounding the lives, deaths and conquests of Attila and Genghis Khan, examining the historical record and the way in which their legacies were shaped, all in an attempt to separate fact from fiction. Along with pictures and bibliographies, you will learn about Attila and Genghis like never before.

ARGUMENTS YARD THIRTY FIVE YEARS OF RANTING VERSE AND THRASH MANDOLA【電子書籍】[ ATTILA THE STOCKBROKER ]

Launched into public consciousness by John Peel in the early 1980s, poet, musician, journalist and political activist Attila the Stockbroker has since spent thirty five years touring the world as a self-sustaining, one man DIY cottage industry. Having performed over three thousand gigs in twenty four countries, releasing thirty records and seven books of poetry along the way, he pauses here to relate his life story, a tale of ranting verse, punk rock and his relationship with the ever changing, increasingly corporate minded politics of the last five decades. An autobiography like no other, 'Arguments Yard' bounces effortlessly from frontline tales of touring East Germany, the first ever punk performance in Stalinist Albania, being thrown out of one of his own gigs and the ongoing fight - often literally - with the fascist thuggery which blighted the punk rock scene to more homely anecdotes concerning his coastal upbringing and love of his home in West Sussex, his involvement with Brighton and Hove Albion FC and his journey into a career which has lasted far longer than the ranting verse fad which spawned it. Full of humour and intellect, and peppered with encounters with notable figures, 'Arguments Yard' demonstrates a depth rarely found in the everyday performer's autobiography, and relates an important social history, being a left wing activist's eyewitness journey through the great political battles and movements of recent times. Rock Against Racism, the Anti Nazi League, the miners' strikes, the Wapping dispute, Red Wedge, the Poll Tax and campaigns against two Gulf Wars are all analysed from a ring side perspective before the author packs his bags and takes us on another tour of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA or Europe. Now a long established Glastonbury regular, a legend of his much beloved football club and the organiser of his own hugely popular beer and music festival, Glastonwick, Attila The Stockbroker remains as focussed and active as ever and continues to perform around a hundred gigs a year to diverse audiences across the English speaking world. His message is a simple one: you don't need to be 'a celebrity' to lead a life earning your living doing what you love to do. You just need a way with words, the self-confidence and organizational ability of Napoleon and skin thicker than the armour of a Chieftain tank. 'Arguments Yard' is the perfect antidote to the countless fake tan splattered and empty headed celebrity autobiographies that increasingly fill the nation's bookshelves.
