CHILD OF ILLUSIONS【電子書籍】[ CAMILLIA MAHAL ]

Life is a journey of experiences that unravel who we are and what we desire. Many seek answers to the never ending question of "who am I?" and "what is my purpose." At times we are guided by invisible forces and there are other lifetimes that we serve our karma. "Child of illusions" is a tale of one of the lives I led during the Mughal Empire; what I loved, what I lost, and what lives within me in this birth I have now taken as Camillia. Speaking from my soul connects me to the divine, and allows me to express my truth. I have worn every face and every energy that has existed on earth since the beginning of time, and because of that I know that the only meaning and reason to live and breathe is this profound expression called LOVE.....

Mental Capacity in Relationship Decision-Making, Dialogue, and Autonomy【電子書籍】[ Camillia Kong ]

Recent legal developments challenge how valid the concept of mental capacity is in determining whether individuals with impairments can make decisions about their care and treatment. Kong defends a concept of mental capacity but argues that such assessments must consider how relationships and dialogue can enable or disable the decision-making abilities of these individuals. This is thoroughly investigated using an interdisciplinary approach that combines philosophy and legal analysis of the law in England and Wales, the European Court of Human Rights, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. By exploring key concepts underlying mental capacity, the investigation concludes that both primary relationships and capacity assessments themselves must display key competencies to ensure that autonomy skills are promoted and encouraged. This ultimately provides scope for justifiable interventions into disabling relationships and articulates the dialogical practices that help better situate, interpret, and understand the choices and actions of individuals with impairments.

Conceiving Freedom Women of Color, Gender, and the Abolition of Slavery in Havana and Rio de Janeiro【電子書籍】[ Camillia Cowling ]

In Conceiving Freedom, Camillia Cowling shows how gender shaped urban routes to freedom for the enslaved during the process of gradual emancipation in Cuba and Brazil, which occurred only after the rest of Latin America had abolished slavery and even after the American Civil War. Focusing on late nineteenth-century Havana and Rio de Janeiro, Cowling argues that enslaved women played a dominant role in carving out freedom for themselves and their children through the courts.
Cowling examines how women, typically illiterate but with access to scribes, instigated myriad successful petitions for emancipation, often using "free-womb" laws that declared that the children of enslaved women were legally free. She reveals how enslaved women's struggles connected to abolitionist movements in each city and the broader Atlantic World, mobilizing new notions about enslaved and free womanhood. She shows how women conceived freedom and then taught the "free-womb" generation to understand and shape the meaning of that freedom. Even after emancipation, freed women would continue to use these claims-making tools as they struggled to establish new spaces for themselves and their families in post emancipation society.
