Swarm Intelligence Why Our World Would End If Swarm Intelligence Disappeared?【電子書籍】[ Fouad Sabry ]

What Is Swarm Intelligence

- Traders deciding on the next big market bet.
- A navigation app quickly mapping out a less-explored area.
- Fashion brands choosing the hottest color of the season.
- An airport managing fight delays.

What do these scenarios have in common?

In each one, swarm intelligence blends global and local insight to improve how businesses make decisions.

Swarm intelligence is a form of artificial intelligence (AI) inspired by the insect kingdom. In nature, it describes how honeybees migrate, how ants form perfect trails, and how birds flock. In the world of AI, swarm systems draw input from individual people or machine sensors and then use algorithms to optimize the overall performance of the group or system in real time.

Consider Waze, the popular road navigation app that uses swarm intelligence to create and modify maps. Starting with limited digital maps, it began making tweaks based on its users’ GPS data along with manual map modifications by registered users. Entire cities have been mapped using this method, as was the case in Costa Rica’s capital, San Jos?. And just as ants signal danger to their counterparts, so too do Waze users contribute live information from accident locations and traffic jams.

Swarm intelligence is now being used to predict everything from the outcome of the Super Bowl to fashion trends to major political events. Using swarm intelligence, investors can better predict market movements, and retailers can more accurately forecast sales.

How You Will Benefit

By the end of reading this book, you will have the answers to the public top 100 questions, queries, issues, doubts, problems and inquiries. Most importantly, you will be able master the discussion about the following topics in Swarm Intelligence, and explore the new ways of thinking about life and business:

01 - Fundamental Concepts: Definition, Systems, Nature

02 - Models of Swarm Behavior: Boids, Self-Propelled Particles

03 - Optimization Problem: Elements, Formulations, and Search Solutions

04 - Meta-Heuristic Nature Inspired Optimization Algorithms Inspired by Swarm Intelligence

05 - Meta-Heuristic and Monkeys Problems: Infinite, Finite, and the difference

06 - Common Algorithmic Characteristics and Comparisons: Ant Colony Optimization, Bee Colony Optimization, Bat Algorithm, Cuckoo Search, Particle Swarm Optimization, Firefly Algorithm, Flower Pollination Algorithm, Swarm Intelligence Application Areas, Travelling Salesman Problem, Telecommunication, Image Processing, Engineering Design, Vehicle Routing

07 - Swarm Intelligence Systems: Taxonomy, Natural vs. Artificial, Scientific vs. Engineering

08 - Examples of Swarm Intelligence Systems: Foraging Behavior of Ants, Clustering by a Swarm of Robots, Exploitation of Collective Behaviors of Animal Societies, Swarm-based Data Analysis

09 - Properties of Swarm Intelligence Systems: Individual, Homogeneous, Interaction, Self-Organized

10 - Studies and Applications of Swarm Intelligence Systems: Clustering Behavior of Ants, Nest Building Behavior of Wasp and Termites, Flocking and Schooling in Birds and Fish, Any Colony Optimization, Particle Swarm Optimization, Swarm-based Network Management, Cooperative Behavior in Swarm of Robots.

11- Swarm Intelligence as a Whole New Way of Thinking About Business: Perspective and Advantages

12 - Swarm Intelligence Foraging for Solutions in Telecommunication, Information Technology, Logistics, Manufacturing.

13 - Advantages of Swarm Intelligence for Organizations: Simple Rules Rule, Raiding New Markets, A swarm of Possibilities.

The Disappeared: A Retrieval Artist Novel Retrieval Artist, #1【電子書籍】[ Kristine Kathryn Rusch ]

Winner of the Endeavor Award

"…one of the top science fiction sagas in recent years."

ーMidwest Book Reviews

Whose rules does Detective Miles Flint live by?

Humans and aliens have formed a loose government called the Earth Alliance, with treaties that guarantee humans are subject to alien laws when on alien soil. But alien laws often seem senseless, and minor violations draw outrageous punishmentsーfrom death to the loss of a first-born child.

Miles Flint grapples with three cases that have collided: a stolen space-yacht filled with dead bodies, two kidnapped human children, and a human woman on the run to avoid alien prosecution, trying to become one of the Disappeared. Flint must enforce the lawーgiving the children to aliens, solving the murders, and arresting the woman for running from the legal system. But how can he enforce laws that are unjust? How can he sacrifice innocents to a system he's not sure he believes in? How can Miles Flint do the right thing in a universe where the right thing is very, very wrong?

This is Flint's first adventure in the 15-book series, the story that turns him from a police detective in the Armstrong Dome on the Moon into a Retrieval Artist.

**"**Part CSI, part Blade Runner, and part hard-boiled gumshoe, [Retrieval Artist] Miles Flint would be as at home on a foggy San Francisco street in the 1940s as he is in the domed lunar colony of Armstrong City."

ーThe Edge Boston

"Rusch has created an entertaining blend of mystery and sf, a solid police drama that asks hard questions about what justice between cultures, and even species, really is."

ーBooklist

"It feels like a popular TV series crossed with a Spielberg film-engaging."

ーLocus

"The Disappeared is a very readable, very thought-provoking novel that lives up to every expectation we have of Rusch and her considerable talents. The Island that Disappeared The Lost History of the Mayflower's Sister Ship and its Rival Puritan Colony【電子書籍】[ Tom Feiling ]

The creation myth of the United States begins with the plucky English puritans of the Mayflower--but what about the story of its sister ship, the Seaflower.

Few people today know the story of the passengers aboard the Seaflower, who in 1630 founded a rival puritan colony on an isolated Caribbean island called Providence. They were convinced that England’s empire would rise not in barren New England, but rather in tropical Central America.

However, Providence became a colony in constant crisis: crops failed, slaves revolted . . . and then there were the pirates. And, as Tom Feiling discovers in this surprising history, the same drama was played out by the men and women who re-settled the island one hundred years later.

The Island That Disappeared presents Providence as a fascinating microcosm of colonialism--even today. At first glance it is an island of devout churchgoers - but look a little closer, and you see that it is still dependent on its smugglers.

At once intimate and global, this story of puritans and pirates goes to the heart of the contradictory nature of the Caribbean and how the Western World took shape.

The Man who Disappeared (America)【電子書籍】[ Franz Kafka ]

'...behind them all was New York, looking at Karl with the hundred thousand windows of its skyscrapers' Entering New York harbour, the young immigrant Karl Rossmann sees the Statue of Liberty, 'her arm with the sword stretched upward'. This forbidding introduction sets the tone for Kafka's narrative about an innocent European astray in an ultra-modern America that is both a fantasy and an object of social satire. Expelled by his family after seduction by a maidservant, Karl finds in America a series of surrogate families, but he continues to get into undeserved trouble and is forced to move on once again. Along the way Karl encounters extremes of wealth and poverty, experiences the cruelty of the American work ethic, and has glimpses of the criminal underworld, without losing the basic goodness and resourcefulness that enable him to survive the hazards of the New World. Full of incident, and blackly humorous, Kafka's first novel portrays American civilization with horrified fascination. This edition retains Kafka's distinctive style in a sensitive and natural new translation, together with a penetrating introduction and notes. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

Twelve Cries from Home In Search of Sri Lanka's Disappeared【電子書籍】[ Minoli Salgado ]

Twelve Cries from Home speaks out against Sri Lanka’s official silencing of war crimes, reclaiming the stories of survivors who insist on being heard.

Since August 2020, the intimidation of witnesses and journalists has surged in Sri Lanka. Twelve Cries from Home navigates the memories and stories of twelve war survivors, mostly women and relatives of the disappeared, who wished to have their stories retold so that a permanent record might be made, and so that those outside the country might understand their experiences.

The outcome of a journey across the island in late 2018 by writer and Professor of Literature Minoli Salgado, who was revisiting her ancestral home, Twelve Cries from Home is deeply-layered and localised work of travelling witness. It returns to the concept of home as a place of belonging and security, which is a lost ideal for most, and uses a Sri Lankan measure of distance ? the call, or hoowa ? to ask how we might attend to stories that are difficult to tell and to hear.

Exploring the bitter complexity of war by presenting stories from four regions of Sri Lanka, it reveals the complex network of relationships between the agents of conflict and their victims, as well as the blurred boundary between victims and perpetrators, the role of informers and the process of ethical repair after traumatic experience.

Twelve Cries from Home offers a rare glimpse into a country subject to enforced self-censorship, allowing us to take stock of social and political developments in Sri Lanka and what has and has not been achieved in light of the transitional justice mechanisms promised to the UN.

In 1938 sixteen year old Jake Foreman spends his free time with his friend Barney Teitleman in Lawndale, a prosperous Jewish community on Chicago’s near west side. Jake develops a crush on Miriam Hirsch, an actress in the Yiddish theater who lives at the Teitleman’s boarding house, but Miriam only has eyes for Skull, who might or might not be a gangster. THE DAY MIRIAM HIRSCH DISAPPEARED was the first short story I wrote. Little did I know then that the story would become the “prequel” to my Ellie Foreman series. Or that the Ellie Foreman series would be the prequel to the Georgia Davis series. The story, which won the Bouchercon short story contest in 1999, was first published in the Bouchercon Program book. It was later published in ANTHOLOGY TODAY, where it also won a contest, and in the now defunct FUTURES MAGAZINE.
Sarah Holmes’ life is a mess. Her husband has blown through his trust fund. When he is cut off, he turns to working with vicious drug dealers to make money, and he can’t help skimming. Now the police and the drug dealers are after him and Sarah. In desperation, she turns to Mack, a man she had wronged terribly years ago, as her last hope. At first he refuses, simply giving her money so she can drink herself into a stupor. Regretting the decision, he sends someone to get her. Saved at the last minute from a mugging or worse, Sarah is bundled onto a van and driven away. She disappears. She awakens to find herself at an isolated vacation home near a lake. She meets her roommate, a woman her own age named Belinda. Years of selfindulgence and drinking have left Sarah a doughy mess. Belinda whips her back into shape with regular exercise, and imposes discipline with housework and tending a vegetable garden. As Sarah grows fitter, she finds her libido returning with a vengeance, but the only person she’s in regular contact with is Belinda. Belinda is a dominant. She much prefers men, but eventually she can’t resist starting an F/f relationship with Sarah. Mack visits at long intervals, warning Sarah that she will have to stay disappeared for two years before the people looking for her give up. When he visits, Belinda takes a sadistic pleasure in throwing Sarah at him for sex. Sarah discovers that her old lover now has strong dominant tendencies of his own, and is still angry with her for what she had done. She endures painful spankings and rough sex, but finds herself becoming strongly attracted to him. How long can Sarah stay disappeared and will Mack ever forgive her?

Familiar Faces Photography, Memory, and Argentina’s Disappeared【

An exploration of the rich and varied relationship between photography and the most recent Argentine dictatorship.

Familiar Faces offers a diverse, theoretically rich, and empirically informed exploration of photography in Argentina’s memorial, political, and artistic landscape.

During the country’s most recent civic-military dictatorship (1976?1983), 30,000 people were disappeared or killed by the state. Over the decades, vernacular and professional photographs have been central to the Argentine struggle for justice. They were used not only to protest the disappearances under the dictatorship and to denounce the authorities, but also as tools of political and social activism, and for remembering the disappeared.

With contributions from leading Argentina-based anthropologists, ethnographers, curators, art scholars, media researchers, and photographers, Familiar Faces moves beyond the traditional considerations of representation, focusing instead on the ways in which photography is continuously reimagined as a tool of memory, mourning, and political and judicial activism. In so doing, it considers the diverse uses of press photography; artistic practice; photographs of the disappeared in domestic rituals; photographs of the inmates of torture centers; the reclamation of images taken by the dictatorial state for memorial and activist purposes.

Written and published at a crucial moment in Argentine memory politics, Familiar Faces offers a geographically and formally diverse selection of case studies, with international as well as regional resonance. While firmly rooted in this national context, the book contributes to wider, global debates about the increasingly pervasive role of the photographic image in relation to state-sponsored, large-scale violence.

Fire Walk With Me Your Laura Disappeared【電子書籍】[ Scott Ryan ]

In 1990, David Lynch was on top of the world. Wild at Heart won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and Twin Peaks was the hottest show on TV. In 1992, he released Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. It sure is amazing how fast coffee can get cold. The film was not well received, to say the least, by critics or ticket buyers. It seemed like the verdict was in: Twin Peaks was dead and wrapped in plastic. Thirty years later, the film is thought by many to be Lynch's masterpiece. Author Scott Ryan (Moonlighting: An Oral History, The Blue Rose magazine) was among the few Twin Peaks fans who saw the film on the day it was released and loved it from the beginning. He takes an in-depth look at the film, its legacy, and the people who created it, weaving in his own story of how the film has inspired him throughout his life, and still does. The book features Interviews with cowriter Bob Engels, editor Mary Sweeney, lead actress Sheryl Lee, and other cast members, as well as Ryan's essays covering the different iterations of the script, and Angelo Badalamenti's superb score. This is an ambitious, unique exploration of one of the darkest films ever created by the master himself, David Lynch.

Transitional Justice and the ‘Disappeared’ of Northern Ireland Silence, Memory, and the Construction of the Past【電子書籍】[ Lauren Dempster ]

This book employs a transitional justice lens to address the ‘disappearances’ that occurred during the Northern Ireland conflict ? or ‘Troubles’ ? and the post-conflict response to these ‘disappearances.’ Despite an extensive literature around ‘dealing with the past’ in Northern Ireland, as well as a substantial body of scholarship on ‘disappearances’ in other national contexts, there has been little scholarly scrutiny of ‘disappearances’ in post-conflict Northern Ireland. Although the Good Friday Agreement brought relative peace to Northern Ireland, no provision was made for the establishment of some form of overarching truth and reconciliation commission aimed at comprehensively addressing the legacy of violence. Nevertheless, a mechanism to recover the remains of the ‘disappeared’ ? the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains (ICLVR) ? was established, and has in fact proven to be quite effective. As a result, the reactions of key constituencies to the ‘disappearances’ can be used as a prism through which to comprehensively explore issues of relevance to transitional justice scholars and practitioners.

Pursuing an interdisciplinary approach, and based on extensive empirical research, this book provides a multifaceted exploration of the responses of these constituencies to the practice of ‘disappearing.’ It engages with transitional justice themes including silence, memory, truth, acknowledgement, and apology. Key issues examined include the mobilisation efforts of families of the ‘disappeared,’ efforts by a (former) non-state armed group to address its legacy of violence, the utility of a limited immunity mechanism to incentivise information provision, and the interplay between silence and memory in the shaping of a collective, societal understanding of the ‘disappeared.’

The Disappeared - The Cleveland Kidnappings and Other Shocking Cases【電子書籍】[ Al Cimino ]

When the news broke in May 2013 that three women had been held captive for over ten years in Cleveland, Ohio, the world was stunned. Not only had the women been imprisoned in an ordinary house a few blocks from where they had disappeared, but their captor, Ariel Castro, had never been a suspect in their kidnapping. The revelation sent shockwaves through the community and sparked widespread fear among the inhabitants of seemingly normal neighbourhoods everywhere. This is not a standalone case. In 2008, 42-year-old Elisabeth Fritzl emerged from the cellar of her family home in Austria, having been imprisoned and raped by her father for 24 years. In the UK, the 'British Fritzl' held his two daughters captive for 28 years - moving frequently enough not to raise suspicion - and fathered seven children by them.In this gripping book, Al Cimino explores the appalling truth behind these and several more cases of the disappeared, delving into the depths of human depravity that enabled such cruel acts, and shining a light on the courage, fortitude and tenacity of the survivors. This is a tribute to those victims, and a testament to the strength of human spirit, as well as a forensic study of a particularly heinous crime.
