They have come to refer to him as "the Artist". Some of them have served with him for many years, while others have come to work with him only recently. These young nurses and members of the US military have been "called" by the aged, short, white-haired gentleman, to labor in behalf of those to him he leads them. With their callings and assignments come a variety of gifts or powers, with which they are betteer able to serve, uplift, give comfort to those who suffer terribly throughout the world during the most violent period in world history, 1914-1945. Among the gifts bestowed on them are the ability to see briefly into the future, to understand foreign languages and be heard to speak in those languages, to cure the sick and wounded. Most astonishing among these gifts is the fact that they cease to age or to evven become ill. This last power, however, comes with a substantial price...their loved ones will age and die, leaving them alone and forever at the prime of life. Romance, love, marriage, families...these are among the sacrifices they will be called upon to make.

Travel the world with the Artist and his flock of Hovering Angels, as they bless and comfort their fellow human beings, whether it is Belgium in 1914 or Hiroshima in 1945. Learn of remarkable yet overlooked real heroes, like Nancy Wake and Noor Inayat Khan. Go inside Nazi-controlled Paris and Poland, seeing in graphic and heartbreaking detail the atrocities carried out against the weak and defenseless.

Learn, along with the Hovering Angels do, as the Artist leads and teaches these young people in the sacred art of ministering to those who suffer terribly. Become aware of the powerful and closeby spirit world, where committed individuals labor in behalf of those whose spiritual eyes are not yet opened.

In Hovering Flight【電子書籍】[ Joyce Hinnefeld ]

At 34, Scarlet Kavanagh has the kind of homecoming no child wishes, a visit back to family and dear friends for the gentle passing of her mother, Addie, a famous bird artist and an even more infamous environmental activist. Though Addie and her husband, ornithologist Tom Kavanagh, have made their life in southeastern Pennsylvania, Addie has chosen to die at the New Jersey home of her dearest friend, Cora. This is because the Kavanagh’s ramshackle cottage is filled with too much history and because, in the last ten years or so, and for reasons that are not entirely clear, even bird song has seemed to make Addie angry, or sad, or both. Now, in their final moments together, Scarlet hopes to put to rest the last tensions that have marked their relationship.

Through tender conversations with Cora and Lou, another of Addie’s dear friends, Scarlet slowly comes to peace with her mother’s complicated life. But can she do the same with her own? Scarlet has carried a secret into these foggy days - a secret for Addie, one that involves Cora, too.

In its structure and style this novel follows in the tradition of writers like Virginia Woolf, Harriet Doerr, and Carol Shields: musical and dramatic, with myriad stories and voices. But the evocative language of this soaring novel is Hinnefeld’s own.

Quad Rotorcraft Control Vision-Based Hovering and Navigation【電子書籍】[ Luis Rodolfo Garc?a Carrillo ]

Quad Rotorcraft Control develops original control methods for the navigation and hovering flight of an autonomous mini-quad-rotor robotic helicopter. These methods use an imaging system and a combination of inertial and altitude sensors to localize and guide the movement of the unmanned aerial vehicle relative to its immediate environment.
The history, classification and applications of UAVs are introduced, followed by a description of modelling techniques for quad-rotors and the experimental platform itself. A control strategy for the improvement of attitude stabilization in quad-rotors is then proposed and tested in real-time experiments. The strategy, based on the use low-cost components and with experimentally-established robustness, avoids drift in the UAV’s angular position by the addition of an internal control loop to each electronic speed controller ensuring that, during hovering flight, all four motors turn at almost the same speed. The quad-rotor’s Euler angles being very close to the origin, other sensors like GPS or image-sensing equipment can be incorporated to perform autonomous positioning or trajectory-tracking tasks.
Two vision-based strategies, each designed to deal with a specific kind of mission, are introduced and separately tested. The first stabilizes the quad-rotor over a landing pad on the ground; it extracts the 3-dimensional position using homography estimation and derives translational velocity by optical flow calculation. The second combines colour-extraction and line-detection algorithms to control the quad-rotor’s 3-dimensional position and achieves forward velocity regulation during a road-following task.
In order to estimate the translational-dynamical characteristics of the quad-rotor (relative position and translational velocity) as they evolve within a building or other unstructured, GPS-deprived environment, imaging, inertial and altitude sensors are combined in a state observer.
The textgive the reader a current view of the problems encountered in UAV control, specifically those relating to quad-rotor flying machines and it will interest researchers and graduate students working in that field. The vision-based control strategies presented help the reader to a better understanding of how an imaging system can be used to obtain the information required for performance of the hovering and navigation tasks ubiquitous in rotored UAV operation.

Two men troubled by their memories: one’s desperate to forget, the other’s already forgotten too much. For Mike Collins, going through a painful marriage break-up and stuck in a job he hates, the past is full of painful memories he’d rather erase. He’s sacrificed the hopes and dreams of his youth and despairs of the future. And when Mike falls for Cheryl, the blonde drummer, it seems to ignites the fury of the band’s frontman, Dylan. A Hovering of Vultures【電子書籍】[ Robert Barnard ]

Susannah Sneddon had never received a great deal of fame or fortune from her novel-writing in the twenties and thirties. In the remote Yorkshire village of Micklewike, where she had lived on a run-down farm, she was now chiefly remembered for the violence of her demise ? battered to death, apparently by her jealous brother, who then shot himself. That was back in 1932, and now there was a renewed surge of interest in the Sneddons, led by the shady publisher and entrepreneur Gerald Suzman. He had bought up the farm and formed the Sneddon Fellowship, with the declared aim of making the Sneddons’ reputation as a kind of twentieth-century Bront? family.

A motley collection of enthusiasts gathered in Micklewike for the inaugural meeting of the Sneddon Fellowship, including Charlie Peace, a young black detective constable sent to keep an eye on things. There was a suspicion that Suzman’s motives were not quite as purely literary as they seemed. And when Suzman was found lying dead with his head bashed in, a surprising number of possible reasons for his death emerged amongst the group of Sneddon followers.

Charlie and Superintendent Mike Oddie had to examine evidence both old and new as the strange case of the Sneddon literary heritage was gradually unravelled.

‘One of the deftest stylists in the field’ New York Times Book Review

‘This story is a beauty . . . enlivened by Barnard’s wit and his knowledge of the seedier side of literary affairs’ Birmingham Post
