An Essay on the Evils of Popular Ignorance【電子書籍】[ John Foster ]

In John Foster's 'An Essay on the Evils of Popular Ignorance,' the author delves into the detrimental effects of widespread ignorance on society, exploring the ways in which it hinders progress and perpetuates inequality. Written in a persuasive and eloquent style, the book examines the intellectual and moral decay that results from the lack of education among the masses, drawing on historical examples and philosophical arguments to make a compelling case for the importance of knowledge and enlightenment. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century England, Foster's work shines a critical light on the social structures and power dynamics that thrive on ignorance, offering a thought-provoking analysis of the role of education in shaping a more just and equitable society. John Foster, a renowned British essayist and social commentator, was known for his sharp wit and keen insight into the pressing issues of his time. His background in journalism and activism informs his passionate plea for educational reform in 'An Essay on the Evils of Popular Ignorance,' making it a seminal work in the field of social criticism. I highly recommend this book to readers interested in the intersection of knowledge, power, and social change, as Foster's thought-provoking arguments continue to resonate in today's world.

Historicizing Fear Ignorance, Vilification, and Othering【

Historicizing Fear is a historical interrogation of the use of fear as a tool to vilify and persecute groups and individuals from a global perspective, offering an unflinching look at racism, fearful framing, oppression, and marginalization across human history. The book examines fear and Othering from a historical context, providing a better understanding of how power and oppression is used in the present day.

Contributors ground their work in the theory of Otheringーthe reductive action of labeling a person as someone who belongs to a subordinate social category defined as the Otherーin relation to historical events, demonstrating that fear of the Other is universal, timeless, and interconnected. Chapters address the music of neo-Nazi white power groups, fear perpetuated through the social construct of black masculinity in a racially hegemonic society, the terror and racial cleansing in early twentieth-century Arkansas, the fear of drug-addicted Vietnam War veterans, the creation of fear by the Tang Dynasty, and more.

Timely, provocative, and rigorously researched, Historicizing Fear shows how the Othering of members of different ethnic groups has been used to propagate fear and social tension, justify state violence, and prevent groups or individuals from gaining equality. Broadening the context of how fear of the Other can be used as a propaganda tool, this book will be of interest to scholars and students of history, anthropology, political science, popular culture, critical race issues, social justice, and ethnic studies, as well as the general reader concerned with the fearful framing prevalent in politics.

Contributors:
Quaylan Allen, Melanie Armstrong, Brecht De Smet, Kirsten Dyck, Adam C.
As a child growing up in a small midwestern town, Reverend O. L. Johnson never attended church. God, Jesus, and salvation meant nothing to him. It would take yearsalong with military service, marriage, children, and divorcebefore he would come to discover the wonderful meaning behind those words.

From Ignorance to Enlightenment details Johnsons remarkable journey to find God. He goes into the very heart of his search as he struggles to understand the role of the church in his life, the glory of salvation, and Gods plan for his life. From his early days in the church and his complete ignorance of the Gospels good news to his eventual spiritual awakening and acceptance of Christ as his savior, Johnson reveals all.

In addition to his own walk in Christ, Johnson addresses practical issues of many Christians today. He delves into the Scriptures to find answers to questions such as why the local church exists, what it means to be a new creature in Christ, and how we can know we are saved.

On the day Johnson dropped the face of righteousness and embraced his new life in Christ, he truly became born again. A Crusade Against Salvation Ignorance【電子書籍】[ Dr Julius Nang Kum ]

"This long-awaited book of an extraordinary magnitude highlights some African

minds vis-?-vis the Good News of our Creator. The book provides its readers

with some amusing but educative instances of confusion, limitation, and

ignorance observed in some very old African believers in their quest to deeply

understand and embrace the words of God. Although the book comprises of

six short but interesting chapters, these chapters are grouped under two main

themes. The first theme is 'expository' and contains Chapter one. It identifies

some causes that motivated many ancient Africans to know the Good News,

and also reveals some instances of confusion and ignorance observed in those

Africans in their struggle to understand the Good News in greater details. The

second theme is 'solution' and contains chapter two, chapter three, chapter

four, chapter five and chapter six. Chapter two examines some important

religious and political events among the Greeks, the Jews and the Romans that

happened before the coming of Christ into the world. Chapter three narrates

Jesus' life on earth based on the Bible and some insightful Historians. Chapter

four highlights some important events that occurred after Christ. Chapter five

pinpoints some benefits the world enjoys, thanks to the one-time presence

of Christ on this earth and chapter six suggests some wise tools that can be

used when spreading the Good News. This book is appropriate as a text for

minds-building in the domains of, history, values and religion. Justification as Ignorance An Essay in Epistemology【電子書籍】[ Sven Rosenkranz ]

Justification as Ignorance offers an original account of epistemic justification as both non-factive and luminous, vindicating core internalist intuitions without construing justification as an internal condition knowable by reflection alone. Sven Rosenkranz conceives of justification, in its doxastic and propositional varieties, as a kind of epistemic possibility of knowing and of being in a position to know. His account contrasts with recent alternative views that characterize justification in terms of the metaphysical possibility of knowing. Instead, he develops a suitable non-normal multi-modal epistemic logic for knowledge and being in a position to know that respects the finding that these notions create hyperintensional contexts. He also defends his conception of justification against well-known anti-luminosity arguments, shows that the account allows for fruitful applications and principled solutions to the lottery and preface paradoxes, and provides a metaphysics of justification and its varying degrees of strength that is compatible with core assumptions of the knowledge-first approach and disjunctivist conceptions of mental states.

On Fire With Ignorance【電子書籍】[ Michael Shaw ]

You cannot achieve the impossible without occasionally attempting the absurd. If you don’t know you can fail, or refuse to believe it, getting up every day with a positive attitude becomes easier. Getting up off the mat after a knockdown becomes easier. Starting off with another new idea after you’ve finally had to walk away from the last one - for whatever reason - becomes easier. Being an entrepreneur became fashionable in the 1980’s. By the end of the decade, the word itself was big business: it was trumpeted in publications, on Web sites, by inspirational speakers, even in apparel. Many of the world’s self-proclaimed entrepreneurs are flashes in the pan that occasionally make a fast buck but have no staying power. Then there are those who give up when the going gets tough and, tail between their legs, go back to the grind. It really is easier to just work for somebody else and take the check. A full blooded entrepreneur is someone who is willing to take huge risks. Someone willing to run down a thousand blind alleys and knock on a million doors trying to sell new ideas that only they fully understand and believe in, visions no one else can clearly see at first, if ever. I believe it’s better to be approximately right than precisely wrong. So if you’re satisfied you’ve done your homework, go ahead and jump into the deep end and get on with it.

Der Third-Person Effect: Eine Facette von Pluralistic Ignorance【電子書籍】[ Daniela Will ]

Laut Hubert J. O'Gorman (1986) lautet die Definition f?r 'Pluralistic Ignorance' dementsprechend: 'Pluralistic Ignorance refers to erroneous cognitive beliefs shared by two or more indviduals about the ideas, feelings, and actions of others' (S. 333).

Trust the Confession Disavow Ignorance for Personal Freedom【電子書籍】[ Lorenzo D. Leonard ]

Trust the Confession is an examination of the true causes of our vast societal ills and a frank discussion of what can be done to resolve them. The chief cause of our societal downfall is a system of living that 1) has neglected and continues to neglect to educate toward the development of character and practice the qualities expressive of substantive character and 2) favors the achievement of personal meaning and purpose through external sources and promotes power, authority, and prominence as sustainable means to attain legitimacy. This system of living produces the symptoms for which our nation has suffered consistently since its inception: racism, injustice, socioeconomic inequality, discrimination, gender inequality, mass gun violence, hatred,

political division, and more.

Throughout the book, Mr. Leonard examines the various symptoms and issues surrounding this system of living-touching on several hot-button issues with respect. The author draws the reader to the conclusion that the only solution with any long-term viability begins with educating the populace toward the development, value, and practice of substantive character. This training will elevate who a person is intrinsically to an equivalent level of importance with what they are externally and possess materially. A much-needed treatise on the state of our nation, Trust the Confession will encourage every reader to examine their understanding of the world in which we live, challenge their own perspectives with thoughtful consideration, and conduct an honest

appraisal of what they can do to make our world a better place to live for everyone.

Ignorance A Global History【電子書籍】[ Peter Burke ]

A rich, wide-ranging history of ignorance in all its forms, from antiquity to the present day

A Seminary Coop Notable Book of 2023

“Ignorance: A Global History explores the myriad ways in which ‘not-knowing’ affects our lives, sometimes for good, sometimes for ill.”ーMichael Dirda, Washington Post

Throughout history, every age has thought of itself as more knowledgeable than the last. Renaissance humanists viewed the Middle Ages as an era of darkness, Enlightenment thinkers tried to sweep superstition away with reason, the modern welfare state sought to slay the “giant” of ignorance, and in today’s hyperconnected world seemingly limitless information is available on demand. But what about the knowledge lost over the centuries? Are we really any less ignorant than our ancestors?

In this highly original account, Peter Burke examines the long history of humanity’s ignorance across religion and science, war and politics, business and catastrophes. Burke reveals remarkable stories of the many forms of ignoranceーgenuine or feigned, conscious and unconsciousーfrom the willful politicians who redrew Europe’s borders in 1919 to the politics of whistleblowing and climate change denial. The result is a lively exploration of human knowledge across the ages, and the importance of recognizing its limits.

Assembling Exclusive Expertise Knowledge, Ignorance and Conflict Resolution in the Global South【

This book looks at the worlding of the Global South in the process of assembling conflict resolution expertise. Anna Leander, Ole W?ver and their contributors pursue this ambition by following the experts, institutions, databases and creative expressions that are assembled into conflict resolution expertise in the Global South.

Expertise shapes how conflicts in the Global South are understood and consequently dealt with. Yet, expertise is always and necessarily exclusive. The exclusivity of expertise refers both to the fashionable, the sophisticated and what counts, and also to the exclusion of some people or views. Assembled from a wealth of competing knowledges expertise is always both knowledgeable and ignorant. The ambition of the volume is to explore how this exclusive expertise is assembled and in what ways it is therefore knowledgeable and ignorant of knowledges in/of the Global South.

This work will be of significant interest to advanced students and scholars of conflict resolution, peace research, mediation and international relations and scholars of expertise.

The Blind Guardians of Ignorance Covid-19, Sustainability, and Our Vulnerable Future: A Handbook for Change Leaders, Young and Old【電子書籍】[ Mats Larsson ]

The Covid-19 pandemic is not the last surprise that awaits present generations. In 2020 people across the globe have realized that governments have failed to prepare for important challenges, even highly probable ones predicted by experts for decades. Greta Thunberg has scolded world leaders for not doing more to stop global warming. Greta and other experts seem to believe that there are plans for the transformation to sustainability waiting in the drawers of heads of state to become implemented, but there are no such plans. Sustainability experts have focused on climate change ー nobody has developed the large-scale solutions that Greta asks for. Instead, politicians, business leaders, and sustainability experts have assumed that market forces will drive the transformation to e-mobility, the circular economy, and a sustainable society. In fact, very little has been done to develop the large-scale systems that are needed to replace the present production and distribution systems of the global economy. There are 6 million electric cars, 0.5 per cent of global car fleets. At the present rate it would take 500 years to replace existing car fleets and there is no solution for long-distance transportation ready to be implemented. In the case of resource efficient production and distribution systems, countries have made even less progress.Very large investments will be necessary to build sustainable and resilient societies. Covid-19 shows that conscious measures, driven by governments, are needed to prepare for large-scale challenges. The transformation to sustainability involves large investments and management of large-scale transformation programmes, reminiscent of the largest development programmes ever performed by mankind. Few decision makers are aware of the measures that need to be taken to make the global economy sustainable and resilient. Countries need to prepare for a challenging future. Can globalization continue or do countries need to build an entirely new type of economy?

Black Boxes How Science Turns Ignorance Into Knowledge【電子書籍】[ Marco J. Nathan ]

Textbooks and other popular venues commonly present science as a progressive "brick-by-brick" accumulation of knowledge and facts. Despite its hallowed history and familiar ring, this depiction is nowadays rejected by most specialists. There currently are two competing models of the scientific enterprise: reductionism and antireductionism. Neither provides an accurate depiction of the productive interaction between knowledge and ignorance, supplanting the old metaphor of the "wall" of knowledge. This book explores an original conception of the nature and advancement of science. Marco J. Nathan's proposed shift brings attention to a prominent, albeit often neglected, construct--the black box--which underlies a well-oiled technique for incorporating a productive role of ignorance and failure into the acquisition of empirical knowledge. The black box is a metaphorical term used by scientists for the isolation of a complex phenomenon that they have deliberately set aside or may not yet fully understand. What is a black box? How does it work? How do we construct one? How do we determine what to include and what to leave out? What role do boxes play in contemporary scientific practice? Nathan's monograph develops an overarching framework for thinking about black boxes and discusses prominent historical cases that used it, including Darwin's view of inheritance in his theory of evolution and the "stimulus-response model" in psychology, among others. By detailing some fascinating episodes in the history of biology, psychology, and economics, Nathan revisits foundational questions about causation, explanation, emergence, and progress, showing how the insights of both reductionism and antireductionism can be reconciled into a fresh and exciting approach to science.

Veil of Ignorance【電子書籍】[ Markus Heinrich Rehbach ]

Just as the world's population is about to reach 7 Billion, its seemingly unstoppable momentum is halted. 'Year Zero'. 'The Crisis'. While the Pope is being outed as a 'dead-beat dad', and Vatican officials are caught by the world's media arguing with robots, a very close knit group of people are in a pitched race to the finish line with the Zionist New World Order conspirators. Who will win? While Jules and Luc, with their Vegan Co-op, seek to positively transform the world, by eliminating all forms of violence, and liberating human consciousness and sexuality from the chains of two millennia of perverse 'noble' lies a.k.a 'religion', Vatican officials are caught on television cameras arguing with robots. This after the Pope has already been cited in a class action lawsuit as a 'dead-beat dad', in an action demanding the Vatican pay child-maintenance for over 20 million children. But the concept of 'child maintenance' is about to be turned upon its head. For just as the world's population is about to reach 7 Billion, its seemingly unstoppable momentum is halted. 'Year Zero'. 'The Crisis'. Suddenly every living creature known to man has ceased reproducing. The last baby born becomes an international star. Decades later the appearance of a kitten becomes a world media mystery. Who would have thought? But who is behind all this? Have the New World Order Zionist's been beaten to the finish line? But the thing is, most of those actively involved in the conspiracy have no idea. Maybe you are part of it. Only when the veil of ignorance has been lifted will you know for sure. And then we will be left asking the question. What comes next?

Ignorance and Imagination The Epistemic Origin of the Problem of Consciousness【電子書籍】[ Daniel Stoljar ]

Ignorance and Imagination advances a novel way to resolve the central philosophical problem about the mind: how it is that consciousness or experience fits into a larger naturalistic picture of the world. The correct response to the problem, Stoljar argues, is not to posit a realm of experience distinct from the physical, nor to deny the reality of phenomenal experience, nor even to rethink our understanding of consciousness and the language we use to talk about it. Instead, we should view the problem itself as a consequence of our ignorance of the relevant physical facts, Stoljar shows that this change of orientation is well motivated historically, empirically, and philosophically, and that it has none of the side effects it is sometimes thought to have. The result is a philosophical perspective on the mind that has a number of far-reaching consequences: for consciousness studies, for our place in nature, and for the way we think about the relationship between philosophy and science.

The Truth About Pigs Judgement Absent Truth Is Ignorance【電子書籍】[ Terry Carter ]

This book describes a life unlike most. It is the story of an innocent childhood full of hardship, stress, and challenges rarely experienced by a child or adolescent struggling with maturity, social acceptance, and trials all before puberty. That child overcame the odds and chose a career in law enforcement, which exposed him to dangerous experiences involving racial tension, murder, police attitudes, mistrust, anxiety, deception, death, the dangers that face law enforcement officers, and a variety of intriguing events. Those experiences resulted in the unveiling of surprising strengths and weaknesses. This account promotes a better understanding of the character of the men and women who enforce our laws, exposing imperfections and lawlessness at times, but honoring their commitment to fulfill the oath to protect and serve. Circumstances reveal true attitudes and inept political views with some black racist politicians stoking the fires of discontent, white politicians trying to be politically correct to favor minorities, and both races raising suspicions of biased authority. The nonconforming attitudes that often come out toward authority figures are made obvious by race baiters. Politicians are suspected of using their authority to cherry-pick powerful administrators who lack integrity. They are suspected of kowtowing to pressures from the administrations top political powers, and they fail miserably at honoring their oaths of office. Our justice department and those in power exacerbate racial unrest. They appear partisan, catering to the emotional whims of rioters and seeming at times to have antiwhite sentiment. They draw conclusions without engaging rational consideration or a review of evidence. Opinions based on emotional reactions or gathering votes, rather than facts, seems to be the position many politicians take. This leads to premature conclusions that provoke demonstrations and give rioters a feeling of justification for destruction and theft. Racists of the New Party of the Black Panthers demonstrate their hate by intimidating voters at the poles, aligning themselves with racist beliefs expressed by those in the media limelight, and spewing hatred to further divide citizens of all races and religious beliefs.

The Correct Decision Freedom Versus Evil And Ignorance【電子書籍】[ Kazoun Jamil ]

For the first time in recorded history of man, a mathematical formula has been developed to measure the accuracy and error in a vote, in a group decision.

Humans have lived for thousands of years making big and small decisions that dominate their life in politics, law, economics and culture, without ever measuring these decisions' mathematical accuracy and error. Specific formulas for this did not exist. Now, a formula exists! A congress, a parliament, a senate, a court, a Supreme Court, a jury, a corporate board, or a commission have no excuse any longer for allowing votes that are not measured for accuracy and error.

The content shows how the uneducated public acts as "a mob that uses the law" to control others or steal their property just as "a mob that uses guns" to do the same. The author describes many lawmakers and the uneducated public as "thieves" stealing by force-of-law from one person to give another, just as Robin Hood was a thief that stole by force-of-weapon from innocent people and was glorified by those who received stolen property and cared less how this stolen property was gained, as long as it was given to them.

Individuals will learn from this book how to create Freedom Coalitions instead the current system of Oppression Coalitions that are the basis of current Mob Rule political systems.

The new basis for freedom will be mathematics, a scientific solid and sustainable foundation for human freedom.

The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)' theatraler Elemente bedient. 'Birdman: the best film about theatre ever made?'
