Rhetorical Mimesis and the Mitigation of Early Christian Conflicts Examining the Influence that Greco-Roman Mimesis May Have in the Composition of Matthew, Luke, and Acts【電子書籍】[ Brad McAdon ] 楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア	＜p＞This interdisciplinary study focuses upon two conflicts within early Christianity and demonstrates how these conflicts were radically transformed by the Greco-Roman rhetorical and compositional practice of mimesis--the primary means by which Greco-Roman students were taught to read, write, speak, and analyze literary works. The first conflict is the controversy surrounding Jesus's relationship with his family (his mother and brothers) and the closely related issue concerning his (alleged) illegitimate birth that is (arguably) evident in the gospel of Mark, and then the author of Matthew's and the author of Luke's recasting of this controversy via mimetic rhetorical and compositional strategies. I demonstrate that the author of our canonical Luke knew, vehemently disagreed with, used, and mimetically transformed Matthew's infancy narrative (Matt 1-2) in crafting his own. Scientists devote substantial time to devising and exploring representations of all kinds. From photographs and computer-generated images to diagrams, charts, and graphs; from scale models to abstract theories, representations are ubiquitous in, and central to, science. Likewise, after spending much of the twentieth century in proverbial exile as abstraction and Formalist aesthetics reigned supreme, representation has returned with a vengeance to contemporary visual art. Representational photography, video and ever-evolving forms of new media now figure prominently in the globalized art world, while this "return of the real" has re-energized problems of representation in the traditional media of painting and sculpture. If it ever really left, representation in the arts is certainly back.＜/p＞＜p＞Central as they are to science and art, these representational concerns have been perceived as different in kind and asobjects of separate intellectual traditions. Scientific modeling and theorizing have been topics of heated debate in twentieth century philosophy of science in the analytic tradition, while representation of the real and ideal has never moved far from the core humanist concerns of historians of Western art. Yet, both of these traditions have recently arrived at a similar impasse. Thinking about representation has polarized into oppositions between mimesis and convention. Advocates of mimesis understand some notion of mimicry (or similarity, resemblance or imitation) as the core of representation: something represents something else if, and only if, the former mimics the latter in some relevant way. Such mimetic views stand in stark contrast to conventionalist accounts of representation, which see voluntary and arbitrary stipulation as the core of representation. Occasional exceptions only serve to prove the rule that mimesis and convention govern current thinking about representationin both analytic philosophy of science and studies of visual art.＜/p＞＜p＞This conjunction can hardly be dismissed as a matter of mere coincidence. In fact, researchers in philosophy of science and the history of art have increasingly found themselves trespassing into the domain of the other community, pilfering ideas and approaches to representation. Cognizant of the limitations of the accounts of representation available within the field, philosophers of science have begun to look outward toward the rich traditions of thinking about representation in the visual and literary arts. Simultaneously, scholars in art history and affiliated fields like visual studies have come to see images generated in scientific contexts as not merely interesting illustrations derived from "high art", but as sophisticated visualization techniques that dynamically challenge our received conceptions of representation and aesthetics.＜/p＞＜p＞"Beyond Mimesis and Convention: Representation in Art and Science" is motivated by the conviction that we students of the sciences and arts are best served by confronting our mutual impasse and by recognizing the shared concerns that have necessitated our covert acts of kleptomania. Drawing leading contributors from the philosophy of science, the philosophy of literature, art history and visual studies, our volume takes its brief from our title. In den ersten drei Abschnitten werden die Pole einer Dialektik identifiziert, die in der restlichen Arbeit nachgezeichnet wird. Die Untersuchung h?lt stets F?hlung mit Adornos Texten und endet daher auch bei den letzten Ausf?hrungen der ??sthetischen Theorie?. Nachdem einige Einw?nde gegen das Dargestellte behandelt wurden, die Adornos Werk selbst entspringen, soll seine Position durch einen Vergleich mit Paul Ricoeurs Mimesiskonzeption weiterhin an Kontur gewinnen. Eine Zusammenfassung mit knappem Ausblick wird die Arbeit abschlie?en. Vorab erweist sich eine ad?quate Behandlung Adornos als problematisches Unterfangen. Durch die Abgrenzung, welche die kritische Theorie gegen?ber dem 'traditionellen Wissenschaftsbetrieb' vornimmt, entziehen sich auch ihre Werke den klassischen Kategorien wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens. Man kann Adorno nicht anhand der Kriterien untersuchen, die er selbst kritisiert. Over and against Heidegger’s dismissal of Rousseau in the 1930s, and in the wake of classic readings by Jacques Derrida and Jean Starobinski, Lacoue-Labarthe asserts the deeply philosophical importance of Rousseau as a thinker who, without formalizing it as such, established a dialectical logic that would determine the future of philosophy: an originary theatricality arising from a dialectic between “nature” and its supplements.＜/p＞＜p＞Beginning with a reading of Rousseau’s ＜em＞Discourse on Inequality＜/em＞, Lacoue-Labarthe brings out this dialectic in properly philosophical terms, revealing nothing less than a transcendental thinking of origins. For Rousseau, the origin has the form of a “scene”ーthat is, of theater. On this basis, Rousseau’s texts on the theater, especially the ＜em＞Letter to d’Alembert＜/em＞, emerge as an incisive interrogation of Aristotle’s ＜em＞Poetics＜/em＞. This can be read not in the false and conventional interpretation of this text that Rousseau had inherited, but rather in relation to its fundamental concepts, mimesis and katharsis, and in Rousseau’s interpretation of Greek theater itself. If for Rousseau mimesis is originary, a transcendental structure, katharsis is in turn the basis of a dialectical movement, an ＜em＞Aufhebung＜/em＞ that will translate the word itself (for, as Lacoue-Labarthe reminds us, ＜em＞Aufheben＜/em＞ translates ＜em＞katharein＜/em＞).
