The Little Book of Peace World Peace Begins With The Individual【電子書籍】[ Nola Lucas ]

|

"The Little Book of Peace " was written in the spirit to inspire peace in the day-to-day life of modern society, with the belief that world peace starts with the individual, based on the philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism.
The Little Book Of Peace is timely and timeless given the ongoing challenges of establishing peace, and honouring the sanctity of human life in today's world.
This book is for any human being from any walk of life, regardless of age, race, gender or nationality; It is firmly rooted in the current reality of our individual day to day living, amongst the challenges of work, family life, maintaining various types of relationships within our individual communities and society at large.
It goes beyond the focus on the self and self happiness and also aims to make an impact on the positive development of the whole of humanity, that begins with the happiness of the self and spreads through our interaction with those who we are intertwined with.
Someone once said to me that the Little Book of Peace is "A balm for the soul" however I would also like to think that most importantly, that it is a balm for our shared humanity. Nola Lucas

About the Author

Nola Lucas is a writer and speaker who is committed to encouraging respectful dialogue that leads to a deeper understanding of each other and the world in which we all live in.
She believes that heart to heart connections is everything, irrespective of the topic.
“The human experience is vast and complex and while we all share our common humanity, for various different reasons that reflect the harsh realities of a society in conflict, we walk through our existence in very different ways. To address and transform these realities, takes understanding, empathy, and the willingness to have an open mind and most importantly, an open heart to take on new information which is often uncomfortable and challenging, however, I believe that our human hearts have the capacity for limitless expansion and when we embrace and overcome our wonderful differences, we can do anything. “ Nola Lucas

Book Review:

“Nola Lucas is the embodiment of truth and love. She shows up with confidence and fierceness, and at the same time she reveals a vulnerability that is humbling. Her desire to bring people together to awaken and understand each other’s experiences is inspiring. I feel that her Little Book Of Peace is a gift. A beautiful way to share her Buddhist teachings and make them accessible to all. Each page holds a simple truth and a necessary reminder for all of us.” -- Leslie Glickman, Yoga Journey

They Called It Peace Worlds of Imperial Violence【電子書籍】[ Lauren Benton ]
|

A sweeping account of how small wars shaped global order in the age of empires

Imperial conquest and colonization depended on pervasive raiding, slaving, and plunder. European empires amassed global power by asserting a right to use unilateral force at their discretion. They Called It Peace is a panoramic history of how these routines of violence remapped the contours of empire and reordered the world from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries.

In an account spanning from Asia to the Americas, Lauren Benton shows how imperial violence redefined the very nature of war and peace. Instead of preparing lasting peace, fragile truces ensured an easy return to war. Serial conflicts and armed interventions projected a de facto state of perpetual war across the globe. Benton describes how seemingly limited war sparked atrocities, from sudden massacres to long campaigns of dispossession and extermination. She brings vividly to life a world in which warmongers portrayed themselves as peacemakers and Europeans imagined “small” violence as essential to imperial rule and global order.

Holding vital lessons for us today, They Called It Peace reveals how the imperial violence of the past has made perpetual war and the threat of atrocity endemic features of the international order.

Late Boston is out of time.

Winifred McCaffrey sold her soul when she agreed to work for the wealthy Abraham Orwell. As the head of New England's most progressive institute, Orwell has the funding to back his every vision, including visions that wander deep into the gray areas of legality and morality. Winifred has learned to look the other way. Without Orwell's backing, she'd never have been recognized as the top medical engineer of her time.

When Ezra Huxley's famed time machine breaks reality, Orwell commissions Winifred to be his chief advisor at the Post Boston Infirmary. The position would be a dream come true if not for the horrific circumstances…and the fact that Winifred knows Orwell doesn't do anything out of the kindness of his dark, twisted heart. With hands as dirty as hers, Winifred fears she won't have what it takes to thwart Orwell's most diabolical vision yet. At least, not on her own.

Defining the Peace World War II Veterans, Race, and the Remaking of Southern Political Tradition【電子書籍】[ Jennifer E. Brooks ]
|

In the aftermath of World War II, Georgia's veterans--black, white, liberal, reactionary, pro-union, and anti-union--all found that service in the war enhanced their sense of male, political, and racial identity, but often in contradictory ways. In Defining the Peace, Jennifer E. Brooks shows how veterans competed in a protracted and sometimes violent struggle to determine the complex character of Georgia's postwar future.

Brooks finds that veterans shaped the key events of the era, including the gubernatorial campaigns of both Eugene Talmadge and Herman Talmadge, the defeat of entrenched political machines in Augusta and Savannah, the terrorism perpetrated against black citizens, the CIO's drive to organize the textile South, and the controversies that dominated the 1947 Georgia General Assembly. Progressive black and white veterans forged new grassroots networks to mobilize voters against racial and economic conservatives who opposed their vision of a democratic South. Most white veterans, however, opted to support candidates who favored a conservative program of modernization that aimed to alter the state's economic landscape while sustaining its anti-union and racial traditions.

As Brooks demonstrates, World War II veterans played a pivotal role in shaping the war's political impact on the South, generating a politics of race, anti-unionism, and modernization that stood as the war's most lasting political legacy.
