Le Verrier's and Einstein's Predictions for Precession of Perihelia【電子書籍】[ James Constant ]

The discovery and attempts to find classical causes for the precession of the perihelion of the planet Mercury are well known.[ref_1] In the 19th century, the French astronomer Le Verrier found that the perihelion of Mercury advanced by 43 arc- seconds/100y, an amount which could not be accounted for in terms of the gravitational forces exerted on Mercury by the other known planets. Le Verrier assumed another planet, which he named Vulcan, existed between Mercury and the Sun. However, observations failed to establish that Vulcan existed. Another explanation put forth by astronomers was that Newton's law of gravitation was not correct but, if additional terms were added, these could account for the excess rate of turning of the orbit of Mercury. For example, it is known that if a repulsive force C/r3 is added to Newton's law it would provide a correct value for precession of the perihelion of planet Mercury.[ref_2] A different explanation is offered by Einstein's theory of gravitation which calls for an extra term A/r4 which, if added to Newton's law, gives the excess turning rate of 43 arc secondsonds/100y. Importantly, A was not adjusted to give this value. It emerged uniquely out of Einstein's theory. Thus, classical explanations, which could not be found since the 19th century were replaced by Einstein's theory in the 20th century. In what follows, I revisit the Newtonian, Kepler and Einstein ideas of perturbations as causes to find the excess turning rate of a planet. These include causes for effects solely by observed orbit parameters, for effects by other planets, for relativistic and barycentric effects, and for shortcomings by each theory. The largest error from observed values 43 arc seconds/100y is provided by Le Verrier’s method which most likely can be improved by adding non planetary perturbation terms to equation (3). The presumed smallest error from observed values is provided by Einstein’s method which claims exact prediction 0 when applied to a single planet, Mercury, but is contradicted because its application to all planets predicts error of 12.11 arc seconds/100y.

Theory and Modeling of Rotating Fluids Convection, Inertial Waves and Precession【電子書籍】[ Keke Zhang ]

A systematic account of the theory and modelling of rotating fluids that highlights the remarkable advances in the area and brings researchers and postgraduate students in atmospheres, oceanography, geophysics, astrophysics and engineering to the frontiers of research. Sufficient mathematical and numerical detail is provided in a variety of geometries such that the analysis and results can be readily reproduced, and many numerical tables are included to enable readers to compare or benchmark their own calculations. Traditionally, there are two disjointed topics in rotating fluids: convective fluid motion driven by buoyancy, discussed by Chandrasekhar (1961), and inertial waves and precession-driven flow, described by Greenspan (1968). Now, for the first time in book form, a unified theory is presented for three topics - thermal convection, inertial waves and precession-driven flow - to demonstrate that these seemingly complicated, and previously disconnected, problems become mathematically simple in the framework of an asymptotic approach that incorporates the essential characteristics of rotating fluids.

Precession, Nutation and Wobble of the Earth【電子書籍】[ V. Dehant ]

Covering both astronomical and geophysical perspectives, this book describes changes in the Earth's orientation, specifically precession and nutation, and how they are observed and computed in terms of tidal forcing and models of the Earth's interior. Following an introduction to key concepts and elementary geodetic theory, the book describes how precise measurements of the Earth's orientation are made using observations of extra-galactic radio-sources by Very Long Baseline Interferometry techniques. It demonstrates how models are used to accurately pinpoint the location and orientation of the Earth with reference to the stars, and how to determine variations in its rotation speed. A theoretical framework is also presented that describes the role played by the structure and properties of the Earth's deep interior. Incorporating suggestions for future developments in nutation theory for the next generation models, this book is ideal for advanced-level students and researchers in solid Earth geophysics, planetary science and astronomy.

Sommerfeld's and Einstein's Precession of Perihelia【電子書籍】[ James Constant ]

The problem of explaining the precession of the perihelion for planet Mercury has not been solved by any theory, Sommerfeld’s, Newton’s, or Einstein’s. Sommerfeld’s analysis of atomic orbits, so successful in explaining atomic orbits, fails when applied to planetary orbits. Nevertheless, if application of Sommerfeld’s analysis to explaining planetary orbits is correct, one must conclude that planetary orbits do precess by significant amounts which must be accounted for. The orbital speed causes precession of perihelia by an amount not incorporated in Newtonian and Einstein analysis. This page sets forth the issues and insights raised by applying Sommerfeld’s method to the precession of perihelia in the Solar system, and the orbital speed and barycentric effects. Einstein’s method depends on a simplified version of his theory of general relativity, the application of Sommerfeld’s method, depends on parameters of a precessing ellipse, The computed difference between Sommerfeld’s and Einstein’s methods, and the incorporation of orbital speed for explaining the precession of perihelia, is determinative of the validity of Newton’s and Einstein’s theories. A planet’s first barycenter distance is determined more accurately by the Sun-planet 2-body system and a second barycenter distance is determined least accurately by the n-body Solar system. Neither system has any effect on a planet’s, orbit speed and precession.

Shed Tears, My Soul, Shed Tears Poems on the Tragic Global Pandemic Bringing the Great Lockdown Leading to Deep Recession Causing Massive Human Miseries and on Hope and Resilience.【電子書籍】[ Jiban Mukhopadhyay ]

This is a unique collection of twelve poems, written on themes related to the tragic global pandemic-driven great lockdown, which, in turn, caused deep global recession and massive human miseries and death.
It is rare to find poems written on such a huge canvas ー about human life in distress, the suffering millions, the lovingly motivated health workers alongside the government, the declining economy, and all that.
Readers could relive their fatigued experiences of surviving inside closed rooms for long months and contemplate seriously.
Jiban introduces readers to a variety of people with their real life experiences. Like the sad but sweet story of Sophie, marrying her dying fianc?e in mid-night in the hospital ward!
It’s the story-of-a-century that Jiban tells through his poems. It is also about hope and aspiration for a new life. Is the UK economy heading towards a triple dip recession?【電子書籍】[ Wilson Truman ]

Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Economics - Macro-economics, general, grade: A, Monash University Melbourne, language: English, abstract: The UK economy has been facing economic challenges since the financial crisis of 2008/2009 and it is only in 2011/2012 that some positive indications could be seen. It is reported by the Confederation of British Industry that since 1990, the average selling prices for factories had not passed the 33 points mark until 2011 when it rose to 36. By 2007, the pound had dropped by about 23% on a trade weighted basis, making British goods cheaper to buy, which greatly boosted manufacturers ability to buy (Ryan, 2011). The credit crunch and job loss fears which were a consequence of the global recession saw many people cutting on spending and paying off debts quicker, with more and more people opting to save rather than invest or spend. This fall in demand affected not only the UK internal market but the import and export business as well. Borrowing from banks became more expensive and difficult to access. The economy of the UK has since 2008 till now been characterized by short bursts of growth or revival, followed by contractions, causing more anxiety and economic instability (BBC News, 2013). The UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) was the number six and eight largest economy in the world, according to a 2010 rating based on GDP (prices, US dollars) and GDP (PPP) accordingly. The UK's GDP (PPP) in 2010 was US$ 2.172 trillion which translated to 2.982% of the world's GDP. UK continues to use the Pound Sterling even though it is a member of the European Union, where the Euro is the dominating currency (EconomyWatch, 2010). Even though the global economic prospects have improved since the 2008 recession, the UK continues to record negative forecasts and experiences with its economy. In April 2011, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reduced the UK's growth forecast by 1.75%, a third downgrade in the year. The UK was also ranked as the slowest growing economy of the G7 1 The UK Economy: Is It Heading Towards a Triple Dip Recession together with Japan, by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). It is reported that the UK's detrimental performance has been contributed to by its austerity plan which was introduced to reduce level of debts which had been aggravated by the 2008 recession. The austerity plan includes reducing public spending and services and implementation of new tax increases (EconomyWatch, 2010; The Economist, 2011).
