The Story of the Dinosaurs in 25 Discoveries Amazing Fossils and the People Who Found Them【電子書籍】[ Donald R. Prothero ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Today, any kid can rattle off the names of dozens of dinosaurs. But it took centuries of scientific effortーand a lot of luckーto discover and establish the diversity of dinosaur species we now know. How did we learn that Triceratops had three horns? Why don’t many paleontologists consider Brontosaurus a valid species? What convinced scientists that modern birds are relatives of ancient Velociraptor?

In The Story of the Dinosaurs in 25 Discoveries, Donald R. Prothero tells the fascinating stories behind the most important fossil finds and the intrepid researchers who unearthed them. In twenty-five vivid vignettes, he weaves together dramatic tales of dinosaur discoveries with what modern science now knows about the species to which they belong. Prothero takes us from eighteenth-century sightings of colossal bones taken for biblical giants through recent discoveries of enormous predators even larger than Tyrannosaurus. He recounts the escapades of the larger-than-life personalities who made modern paleontology, including scientific rivalries like the nineteenth-century “Bone Wars.” Prothero also details how to draw the boundaries between species and explores debates such as whether dinosaurs had feathers, explaining the findings that settled them or keep them going. Throughout, he offers a clear and rigorous look at what paleontologists consider sound interpretation of evidence. An essential read for any dinosaur lover, this book teaches us to see an ancient world ruled by giant majestic creatures anew.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 2,950円

A Florida Collectors Guide to Fossils and Shark Teeth【電子書籍】[ L.M Rathbone ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

One of the most fascinating pastimes that families and individuals can enjoy at all ages and experience is to go fossil hunting. It does not take long to learn the basics and start enjoying the thrill of finding and holding a piece of history. Soon you will be learning about the prehistoric creatures and the environment they live in. The term “fossil” refers to physical evidence of prehistoric life of a past geologic age. A fossil can range in age a few thousand years old to millions of years old. Depending on where the fossil was found and not the color determines the age of the fossil. Fossils include prehistoric human ancestry and the ice age fauna as well as more ancient fossil groups such as the dinosaurs, ammonites and trilobites. Shark teeth are one the most common fossils found in Florida. Fossils can be found all over the world and not just near water; some fossils found in the United States come from the badlands of Nebraska and Bakersfield California. Some of the earliest fossils that have been discovered dating over 3.5 billion years in age; it was not until about 600 million years ago that you can find complex multicellular life in the fossil records. Most of the fossils that people are looking for and find will fall into this time period. This geologic timescale is divided into different eras, which are then divided into periods. The Jurassic Period from the Mesozoic era is one of the most famous due to the abundance of dinosaur’s fossils found in this time period. Florida surface fossil exposure starts about the middle of the Eocene to recent times.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 1,729円
