For decades the modern anti-trafficking movement has been moving forward in the necessary and admirable goal of ending sexual exploitation. But are we on the right path? Do our practices actually bring about lasting freedom? What more ethical and effective routes can be discovered? For those who are Christians, we must also pause to consider how the paradigms of our faith impact our understanding of the problem and the practices we develop in response. Freedom matters. Faith also matters. And how well we do one affects how well we do the other. In this companion to Stopping the Traffick and Finding Our Way through the Traffick, experts in theology and practice pause to reflect on Christian response to sexual exploitation. We invite you to join us in Stepping Out of the Traffick to develop even better ways of working towards freedom.

Rip gets his latest sex traffick rescue for a bargain price. While he has done this several times before, he is ill-prepared for the challenges his new ward, Lucy, presents him. She is not much more than a piece of human garbage to the sex slave trade when he rescues her from what most likely will be an early and anonymous death.

While he can clean her, feed her, and give her a safe place to live, her lack of ability to communicate makes it necessary to call for help from his long-time friend, Clancy, a speech therapist. With the help of her and his sister, Miami, they work with Lucy and try to return her to being a functioning human being.

Having the lovely Lucy around his home as she grows and develops prevents another problem for Rip as his feelings for her grow as she becomes a full-figured woman with a propensity to tease Rip at every opportunity. His dedication to her rehabilitation is tested repeatedly until she can make her own decisions about who she will share her body with. Sold People Traffickers and Family Life in North China【電子書籍】[ Johanna S. Ransmeier ]
|

A robust trade in human lives thrived throughout North China during the late Qing and Republican periods. Whether to acquire servants, slaves, concubines, or childrenーor dispose of unwanted household membersーfamilies at all levels of society addressed various domestic needs by participating in this market. Sold People brings into focus the complicit dynamic of human trafficking, including the social and legal networks that sustained it. Johanna Ransmeier reveals the extent to which the structure of the Chinese family not only influenced but encouraged the buying and selling of men, women, and children.

For centuries, human trafficking had an ambiguous status in Chinese society. Prohibited in principle during the Qing period, it was nevertheless widely accepted as part of family life, despite the frequent involvement of criminals. In 1910, Qing reformers, hoping to usher China into the community of modern nations, officially abolished the trade. But police and other judicial officials found the new law extremely difficult to enforce. Industrialization, urbanization, and the development of modern transportation systems created a breeding ground for continued commerce in people. The Republican government that came to power after the 1911 revolution similarly struggled to root out the entrenched practice.

Ransmeier draws from untapped archival sources to recreate the lived experience of human trafficking in turn-of-the-century North China. Not always a measure of last resort reserved for times of extreme hardship, the sale of people was a commonplace transaction that built and restructured families as often as it broke them apart.

Unbroken Chains The Hidden Role of Human Trafficking in the American Economy【電子書籍】[ Melissa Ditmore ]
|

An urgent exposition of the pervasive human trafficking that lies just beneath the surface of the US economyーfrom the stories of its survivors

The years of the COVID-19 pandemic have brought to light the exploitation of workers. In this moment of heightened visibility, Unbroken Chains demands that readers examine the hidden sector of American trafficked labor and understand its prevalence across our economy.

Drawing from nearly two decades of research on US and international human trafficking, Melissa Hope Ditmore sets forth the harrowing stories of human trafficking survivors and grounds their accounts in the long history of US indentured servitude, looking to its iterations in chattel slavery, Chinese contract labor, and prison labor. In this groundbreaking investigation of American trafficking, Ditmore unveils the unnerving reality that forced labor permeates many industries beyond sex work: in almost every aspect of consumption, people who create our everyday necessities are working amid inescapable exploitation, often without pay.

Unbroken Chains tells these workers’ stories: They are nannies for New York City’s diplomatic elites and door-to-door magazine salespeople in the American South. A trafficked person may have harvested your produce, sewn your clothes, or cleaned your apartment lobby. Ditmore offers readers an illuminating window on the world of forced labor, which exists within our own, and a road map for participating in its destruction.

Unbroken Chains will include more than a dozen images, including detailed maps, archival pictures, and trafficking documents. Among these images are a modern map of the Sonoran Desert in the American Southwest, a bill of sale for an enslaved woman forced into sex work, letters from men in compulsory plantation labor after the Civil War, and 19th-century “white slave” panic propaganda.

Manufacturing Freedom Sex Work, Anti-Trafficking Rehab, and the Racial Wages of Rescue【電子書籍】[ Elena Shih ]

Sex worker rescue programs have become a core focus of the global movement to combat human trafficking. While these rehabilitation programs promise freedom from enslavement and redemptive wages for former sex workers, such organizations actually propagate a moral economy of low?wage women’s work that obfuscates relations of race, gender, national power, and inequality. Manufacturing Freedom is an ethnographic exploration of two American organizations that offer vocational training in jewelry production to women migrants in China and Thailand as a path out of sex work. In this innovative study, Elena Shih argues that anti?trafficking rescue and rehabilitation projects profit off persistent labor abuse of women workers and imagined but savvily marketed narratives of redemption.

Trafficking Data How China Is Winning the Battle for Digital Sovereignty【電子書籍】[ Aynne Kokas ]
|

Bronze Award, Axiom Business Book Awards Gold Medalist in Finance/Investing/Economics, Ippy Awards From TikTok and Fortnite to Grindr and Facebook, Aynne Kokas delivers an urgent look into the technology firms that gather our data, and how the Chinese government is capitalizing on this data flow for political gain. On August 6, 2020, the Trump Administration issued a ban on TikTok in the United States, requiring that the owner, Beijing-based Bytedance, sell the company to American investors or shut it down. Legions of TikTokers were devastated at the possible loss of their beloved platform, and for what: a political grudge with China? American suitors like Walmart and Oracle tried to make a deal with Bytedance to keep the platform operating in the US. But then something curious happened. The Chinese government refused to let Bytedance sell TikTok on national security grounds. As it turns out, the pandemic era platform for dance challenges is a Chinese government asset. As digital technologies and social media have evolved into organizing forces for the way in which we conduct our work and social lives, the business logic that undergirds these digital platforms has become clear: we are their product. We give these businesses information about everything--from where we live and work to what we like to do for entertainment, what we consume, where we travel, what we think politically, and with whom we are friends and acquaintances. We do this willingly, but often without a full understanding of how this information is stored or used, or what happens to it when it crosses international boundaries. As Aynne Kokas argues, both corporations and governments "traffic" much of this data without our consent--and sometimes illegally--for political and financial gain. In Trafficking Data, Aynne Kokas looks at how technology firms in the two largest economies in the world, the United States and China, have exploited government policy (and the lack thereof) to gather information on citizens, putting US national security at risk. Kokas argues that US government leadership failures, Silicon Valley's disruption fetish, and Wall Street's addiction to growth have fuelled China's technological goldrush. In turn, American complacency yields an unprecedented opportunity for Chinese firms to gather data in the United States and quietly send it back to China, and by extension, to the Chinese government. Drawing on years of fieldwork in the US and China and a large trove of corporate and policy documents, Trafficking Data explains how China is fast becoming the global leader in internet governance and policy, and thus of the data that defines our public and private lives.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre Memoir The Untold Story Behind Courage, Survival, and My Battle Against Sex Trafficking and Elite Corruption【電子書籍】[ Catherine Rhodes ]
|

What happens when a fifteen-year-old girl's search for work leads her into the hands of the world's most notorious sex trafficker?
Virginia Roberts was just a teenager looking for a way to help her struggling family when she was recruited at Mar-a-Lago by Ghislaine Maxwell. What began as a promise of legitimate work quickly became a nightmare of exploitation that would span years and continentsーfrom Palm Beach mansions to a private Caribbean island, from London townhouses to properties across the globe.

Groomed and trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and his enabler Ghislaine Maxwell, Virginia was forced into encounters with some of the world's most powerful men, including Prince Andrew. She was told she would never be believed. That her voice didn't matter. That she was nobody's girl.

They were wrong.
This gripping biography chronicles Virginia's extraordinary journey from victim to survivor to one of the world's most prominent advocates for trafficking victims. It reveals:

The sophisticated grooming tactics used by Epstein and Maxwell to trap vulnerable young women

The international scope of a trafficking operation that reached the highest levels of power

How wealth and connections corrupted the justice system and enabled decades of abuse

Virginia's courageous decision to speak out despite facing attacks from powerful men and their attorneys

The legal battles that ultimately brought down Ghislaine Maxwell and forced Prince Andrew to settle

The vindication that came after years of being dismissed as a liar

How one woman's refusal to stay silent helped expose elite corruption and change the conversation about believing victims

This is more than a story of exploitationーit's a testament to the power of resilience, the possibility of healing, and the impact one voice can have when speaking truth to power. Virginia's courage helped bring down a trafficking network, forced accountability for enablers, and inspired countless other survivors to find their own voices.

From the darkness of trafficking to the triumph of justice, from being "nobody's girl" to becoming a powerful advocate whose voice echoed around the worldーthis is Virginia Roberts Giuffre's story.
For survivors seeking hope, advocates fighting for justice, and anyone who believes that speaking out can change the worldーthis book is essential reading. Discover how courage, persistence, and an unwavering commitment to truth can achieve the impossible.

Cocaine Trafficking in the Caribbean and West Africa in the era of the Mexican Cartels (Revised) The Drug Book, #3【電子書籍】[ Daurius Figueira ]
|

This work first published in 2012 was my first attempt to grapple with the marked, obvious changes to the illicit trades of the Caribbean that became manifest in the first decade of the 21st century. It became obvious in my research that there were now two entirely different transnational organised crime TOC) business models now operationalised in the Caribbean which were now changing the order of power of the illicit trades and that of Caribbean Gangland. This organic change was simultaneously manifest in Africa and Europe, whilst illicit drug production and trafficking were being fundamentally changed in South America clearly illustrating two diametrically different TOC business models now operationalised from South America, through the Caribbean to Africa and finally Europe. In 2025 it became necessary to fully revise this 2012 work as the following developments became manifest: the ongoing war for hegemony between the Colombian Dons and the Mexican TTOs from South America to Europe; to present a detailed analysis of what is Pax Mexicana actually, its business model, its order of power, its instruments of power and its strategic model; the need to present an analysis of the present raging war within the business model of the Colombian Dons as contending factions battle for hegemony; the collapse of the cocaine market of the USA and its impact on the business model of the Colombian Dons; the rise of Europe as the new frontier of the illicit trades to the North Atlantic; the threat of illicit synthetic drugs and the future of the European cocaine market, and finally the lessons to be learnt from the collapse of the USA cocaine market under the assault of illicit synthetic drugs. In this revised volume this analysis is presented in detail in an account of the new model of the illicit trades originating in the Americas in the 21st century. The USA war on drugs has failed miserably!

Unbroken Witness Escaping a Trafficking Empire and Fighting Back in the Courts【電子書籍】[ Eric Brooks ]
|

This book is a survivor's account of power, silence, and the long road to justice. It is written in clear, direct language. It avoids sensational detail. It keeps the focus on truth, recovery, and the steps that anyone can take to stand up for themselves and for others. The story begins with recruitment that looked ordinary. A promise of work. A referral from someone who seemed safe. A ride, a room, a list of rules. The pressure grew in small moves at first: isolation, debt, favors, silence. When fear took hold, the system was already in place. The network thrived on confusion and shame. The goal of this book is to clear the fog. You follow the author through the slow work of breaking free. There was no single rescue. There were attempts. There were returns. There was the moment of saying "no" out loud. Then there was the harder work of staying gone. The pages show how safety planning really looks: saving documents, memorizing contacts, using code words, watching patterns, trusting a few steady people. If you are supporting someone, these scenes will help you see what courage costs and what support truly means.

The LA Crime Series: The Angel Formula A Los Angeles Drug Trafficking Novel【電子書籍】[ Beckett Hale ]
|

When a fifteen-year-old overdoses on a pill that looks like candy, Detective Danny Ramirez discovers it's not just a drugーit's a weapon.

Miguel Ramirez was supposed to be safe. Good kid, good family, growing up in the same Boyle Heights neighborhood where his uncle Danny walks the beat. But one pill at a party stops his heart for ninety seconds, and suddenly Danny is hunting for whoever created the synthetic opioid that nearly killed his nephew.

The trail leads to Dr. Kevin Wang, a brilliant fugitive chemist creating hundreds of fentanyl variants in a secret laboratory. But Wang isn't just making street drugsーhe's building a database of chemical weapons for Chinese intelligence, using Los Angeles drug networks as cover for espionage and weapons development.

DEA Special Agent Rachel Stone knows this case is bigger than local drug trafficking. The Angel FormulaーWang's database of synthetic compoundsーrepresents a threat that crosses from crime into national security. But to stop it, she'll need Danny's street connections, his informants, and his willingness to operate in the gray spaces where federal regulations don't reach.

Together, they'll make deals with murderers. Grant immunity to criminals. Compromise every principle they swore to uphold.

Because the alternative is chemical weapons on American soil.

Carlos Medina runs the distribution network moving Wang's formulas. He's also willing to cooperateーfor a price. Luis Medina, Carlos's brother, will betray his own family to protect his daughter. Mark Chen, a cop in San Gabriel Valley, takes bribes to look the other way. Allison Pike's tech company provides the encryption that makes it all possible.

Everyone has reasons. Everyone has justifications. Everyone thinks they're making the best choice in an impossible situation.

And everyone is wrong.

When the operation goes sideways at the Port of Long Beach, when Detective Dave Campbell dies in an ambush orchestrated by Chinese intelligence, when Danny's sister Sofia is kidnapped to force his cooperationーthe investigation transforms from a drug case into something far more personal and far more dangerous.

Danny Ramirez will discover that stopping the Angel Formula requires becoming the thing he's always fought against. That saving his family means compromising his soul. That sometimes the math doesn't add up, and you have to choose which principle to sacrifice.

Rachel Stone will learn that justice isn't about following rulesーit's about making impossible choices and living with the consequences.

Drug Cartels Do Not Exist Narcotrafficking in US and Mexican Culture【電子書籍】[ Oswaldo Zavala ]

Through political and cultural analysis of representations of the so-called war on drugs, Oswaldo Zavala makes the case that the very terms we use to describe drug traffickers are a constructed subterfuge for the real narcos: politicians, corporations, and the military. Immigration has endured as a prevailing news topic, but it is a fixture of modern society in the neoliberal era; the future will be one of exile brought on by state violence and the plundering of our natural resources to sate capitalist greed.

Yet the realities of violence in Mexico and along the border are obscured by the books, films, and TV series we consume. In truth, works like Sicario, The Queen of the South, and Narcos hide Mexico's political realities. Alongside these examples, Zavala discusses Charles Bowden, 2666 by Roberto Bola?o, and other important Latin American writers as examples of those who do capture the realities of the drug war.

Translated into English by William Savinar, Drug Cartels Do Not Exist will be useful for journalists, political scientists, philosophers, and writers of any kind who wish to break down the constructed barriersーphysical and mentalーcreated by those in power around the reality of the Mexican drug trade.

US-Japan Human Rights Diplomacy Post 1945 Trafficking, Debates, Outcomes and Documents【電子書籍】[ Roger Buckley ]

Comprising two volumes, this is a pioneering study which examines how the United States has deployed public diplomacy with Japan to confront Japanese sexual and labour trafficking, while also charting the successes and failures of the US’s own record on anti-trafficking practices at home and abroad. The subject is an important aspect of human rights advocacy where much remains either unknown or imprecise with regard to a phenomenon that involves millions of people across all continents and within all nation states. The approach is largely chronological and country-based, using documentary evidence from 1945 onwards to trace national and international responses to what is frequently termed ‘modern slavery’, placed within the broader and still evolving context of respect for the full panoply of human rights. Volume 1 comprises the analysis, debates and outcomes, together with ten primary documents relating to the years 1945?1999, as well as a bibliography and index. Volume 2 comprises a further 34 documents relating to the years 2000?2020, including international covenants, US Trafficking In Persons and Congressional reports, and Japanese government papers.

Through her own gripping story of escape from human trafficking, Rebecca Bender reveals the inner workings of the underground world of modern-day slavery and helps us learn how we can be a catalyst for change where we live.

Born and raised in a small Oregon town, all-American girl Rebecca Bender was a varsity athlete and honor roll student with a promising future. Then a predator pretending to be her boyfriend lured her into a web of lies that sent her down a path she never imagined possible.

For nearly six years, Rebecca was sold across the underground world of sex trafficking in Las Vegas. She was branded, beaten, told when to sleep and what to wear, and traded between traffickers. Forced into a dark sisterhood, Rebecca formed bonds with her trafficker and three other women, creating a false sense of family. During that time, God began revealing himself to her. And in the midst of her exploitation, she found the hope she needed to survive.

After a federal raid, Rebecca escaped. Her life was forever changed as she felt the embrace of her heavenly Father guiding her to healing and wholeness. Rebecca soon began to use her own experiences to change the lives of others as she went back into the darkest places she had known--assisting FBI, VICE, and law enforcement across the country in some of their most difficult cases.

Through Rebecca's incredible story of redemption, we remember that our past does not have to determine our destiny.
