I saw what my heroes were capable of. I stood in awe of each of my heroes and the bond that we created led me to love each and everyone of them. Der Abwurf von Atombombe auf Hiroshima und Nagasaki war der einzige Einsatz der Atombombe in einem Krieg. Dieser Einsatz machte klar wozu die neue Waffe f?hig war. Kein milit?risches Mittel war von solch gro?er Bedeutung wie die Atombombe. Doch die Geschichte zeigte, dass eine Macht, die kein Ziel hat, den Willen l?hmt. Diese Erfahrung machten auch die USA. Sie besa?en eine Waffe, die keine andere Nation hatte und mit der sie alle ihre politischen Ziele verwirklichen konnten. Ob die USA aber die neugewonnene Macht in ihre politischen Ziele einbinden konnte ist eine andere Frage, denn daf?r wird eine entsprechende Strategie ben?tigt. Eine Strategie, die die milit?rische Macht als Mittel mit den passenden (politischen) Zielen kombiniert. Hierf?r br?uchte der Stratege wiederum die Kenntnis ?ber die Wirkung der neuen Mittel und verbunden damit auch die genauere Formulierung der Ziele, denen diese Mittel dienen sollten. Im Falle der USA war es lange unklar, ob sie in die Lage k?men, die Atombombe f?r ihre Zwecke zu benutzen. Vor diesem Hintergrund lautet die Forschungsfrage dieser Arbeit: Welches Strategiedilemma brachte die Erfindung der Kernwaffen mit sich? Um diese Frage zu beantworten werden als erstes einige Begriffe erl?utert, die f?r das Verst?ndnis des Themas relevant sind. Anschlie?end wird auf die Geschichte der Erfindung von Kernwaffen eingegangen, die sich ?ber drei?ig Jahre erstreckt, wobei hier zuerst die Entdeckung der Kernspaltung und anschlie?end das Manhattan-Projekt sowie der Einsatz und Gr?nde des Einsatzes erl?utert werden. Im dritten Kapitel wird einen detaillierten Blick auf die Kernwaffen geworfen. Sie werden als strategische und taktische Waffen klassifiziert. In diesem Kapitel wird zum Schluss einen kurzen ?berblick ?ber die wichtigsten Typen gegeben. Im vierten Kapitel wird das Thema der Strategie behandelt, wobei zuerst auf die Strategie als Begriff eingegangen wird. Anschlie?end wird der Prozess des Strategiewandels vor und nach der Erfindung der Kernwaffen beschrieben. Zum Schluss wird in diesem Kapitel darauf eingegangen, welche Schwierigkeiten oder Neuigkeiten die neue Waffe mit sich brachte und warum es f?r die USA schwer war die Macht der Kernwaffen f?r ihre Zwecke einzusetzen.
