The concept of teshuvah (return) occupies a central place in Judaism. More than a shift to a life of greater religious observance, teshuvah is a spiritual re-awakening, a desire to strengthen the connection between oneself and God; it is a life-long process. Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz?s Teshuvah is intended to guide the ba'alei teshuvah in dealing with the difficulties likely to be encountered along the difficult path of return. What is Jewish religious practice all about? How can people who embark on journeys of teshuvah embrace their new identities while accepting their former selves? How can they continue to relate to their families and communities? With characteristic wisdom, patience and sensitivity, Rabbi Steinsaltz offers a practical guide for the newly observant Jew.

Die Vorstellungen, was Kabbala wirklich meint, gehen weit auseinander.
Talks on the Parasha recreates the warm, intimate atmosphere of a personal encounter with Rabbi Steinsaltz. While providing insights that are meaningful for the Jewish collective, it speaks to every individual as well. To Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz, the Torah contains within it many worlds. The themes, the language, the myriad ways in which to understand and interpret it ? all of these are worlds that both exist independently and are connected to one another, inextricably linked from within and from without.

What emerges from the totality of the Torah’s manifold shades of meaning is that the Torah is essentially “the book of the chronicles of man.” The Torah ? addressing, in particular, the Jewish people and the individual ? helps the reader understand not only what happened in the past and what ought to happen in the future, but also the meaning of his or her own life.

Scripture as Logos Rabbi Ishmael and the Origins of Midrash【電子書籍】[ Azzan Yadin ]

The study of midrashーthe biblical exegesis, parables, and anecdotes of the Rabbisーhas enjoyed a renaissance in recent years. Most recent scholarship, however, has focused on the aggadic or narrative midrash, while halakhic or legal midrashーthe exegesis of biblical lawーhas received relatively little attention. In Scripture as Logos, Azzan Yadin addresses this long-standing need, examining early, tannaitic (70-200 C.E.) legal midrash, focusing on the interpretive tradition associated with the figure of Rabbi Ishmael.

This is a sophisticated study of midrashic hermeneutics, growing out of the observation that the Rabbi Ishmael midrashim contain a dual personification of Scripture, which is referred to as both "torah" and "ha-katuv." It is Yadin's significant contribution to note that the two terms are not in fact synonymous but rather serve as metonymies for Sinai on the one hand and, on the other, the rabbinic house of study, the bet midrash. Yadin develops this insight, ultimately presenting the complex but highly coherent interpretive ideology that underlies these rabbinic texts, an ideology thatーcontrary to the dominant view todayーseeks to minimize the role of the rabbinic reader by presenting Scripture as actively self-interpretive.

Moving beyond textual analysis, Yadin then locates the Rabbi Ishmael hermeneutic within the religious landscape of Second Temple and post-Temple literature. The result is a series of surprising connections between these rabbinic texts and Wisdom literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Church Fathers, all of which lead to a radical rethinking of the origins of rabbinic midrash and, indeed, of the Rabbis as a whole.

The Enneagram and Kabbalah (2nd Edition) Reading Your Soul【電子書籍】[ Rabbi Howard A. Addison ]

An updated and expanded examination into the groundbreaking
exploration and connection of two of the most powerful mystical traditions.

Patterns in our lives may escape us; reasons for our behavior often confuse us. To help us better understand the interplay of these dynamics, Rabbi Howard A. Addison combines two of the most powerful maps of consciousness known to humanity: the Tree of Life (the sefirot) from the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah, and the nine-pointed Enneagram that was developed over several generations by mystics of several spiritual traditions.

Individually, each offers guidance and wisdom; together, they show the forces that propel us and shape our personalities and behavior. Most important, the two suggest how we can live more harmoniously with ourselves and with others, minimize friction and tension and discover our own spiritual gateway to God.

In this updated and expanded edition of his pioneering book, Rabbi Addison explores new understandings of the stages and pitfalls we experience along life’s journey and the ways we can transcend the limits of our personalities in search of greater wholeness. He shows that, when brought together, the Enneagram and Kabbalah may enhance understanding of humanity’s deepest motivationsーboth individually and collectivelyーthus opening wider the gate to personal growth.
