Reading the Hebrew Bible with Animal Studies【電子書籍】[ Ken Stone ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Animal studies may be a recent academic development, but our fascination with animals is nothing new. Surviving cave paintings are of animal forms, and closer to us, as Ken Stone points out, animals populate biblical literature from beginning to end. This book explores the significance of animal studies for the interpretation of the Hebrew Bible. The field has had relatively little impact on biblical interpretation to date, but combined with biblical scholarship, it sheds useful light on animals, animal symbolism, and the relations among animals, humans, and Godーnot only for those who study biblical literature and its ancient context, but for contemporary readers concerned with environmental, social, and animal ethics.

Without the presence of domesticated and wild animals, neither biblical traditions nor the religions that make use of the Bible would exist in their current forms. Although parts of the Bible draw a clear line between humans and animals, other passages complicate that line in multiple ways and challenge our assumptions about the roles animals play therein. Engaging influential thinkers, including Jacques Derrida, Donna Haraway, and other experts in animal and ecological studies, Reading the Hebrew Bible with Animal Studies shows how prehumanist texts reveal unexpectedly relevant dynamics and themes for our posthumanist age.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 2,778円

Reading Matthew as the Climactic Fulfillment of the Hebrew Story【電子書籍】[ Martin Spadaro ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

This book is a reading of Matthew's Gospel as though it were written to integrate with, advance, and conclude the existing body of Scriptures. Matthew is read as though John was the last prophet of God and Israel's last chance for repentance, and that Jesus was YHWH who had come to judge the Temple, priesthood, and covenant nation according to the terms of the covenant God made with Moses at Sinai. Through this lens, new interpretations are given to the infancy narrative, the Sermon on the Mount, the mission, the parables, and Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem along with the events that followed. By reading Matthew this way, a greater appreciation can be gained for its necessary place in the canon, and many of Matthew's well-known conundrums can be meaningfully addressed. As a Hebrew document, Matthew understood the necessity to record the crimes against YHWH/Jesus in Israel and Jerusalem as the ultimate cause for the termination of the ethnically and geographically bound covenant, which could then be replaced by the cross-cultural and international covenant that Christians now enjoy.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 3,846円

Restoring Hebrew In The Kingdom Hebrew Calendar Reading Guide 2018/2019【電子書籍】[ Beverly J Jennings ]

American history is also the history of Hebrews in America. We are from every Nation every tongue and tribe, and we were scattered all over the world. It has nothing to do with our color. Yahweh described the land as a strange land, and there is no other place besides America that's filled with people (Hebrews, those who crossed over) who are in a strange land. The first English colony was established by John Smith in 1607 in Jamestown Virginia. It was more than 400 years ago when slave ships arrived in America. It was in 1492 that ships brought Hebrews who were put out of Spain to South America, the Islands and southern part of the United States.. Hebrews were kidnapped from Africa and put out of Spain. This is American History. The 2018/2019 Reading Guide teaches the unfolding of the Word of Yahweh with the focus on the United States History.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 906円

HEBREW READING CLASS【電子書籍】[ Ahmet Murat Ta?er ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

The fact that the letters are not only different from the Latin letters but that it’s written from right to left could also make one think it’s difficult to read in Hebrew.

This problem, which is the biggest difficulty for you who’ve recently started to read in Hebrew, will be overcome by reading the words you already know in your language, just written using Hebrew letters instead of their original spellings with the Latin letters.

Our book starts with the chapter where the Hebrew letters are introduced to you. This way, you will also be informed about the names, sounds and spelling of the letters. This chapter also includes important notes about the letters.

Next, this chapter studies the letters in detail, too. You will read English names familiar to you written in Hebrew letters. Here, it is intended that you will be familiar with every letter step by step

In the second chapter, the pronunciation symbols are introduced. In addition, at this point, it’s more important to know the sounds of the letter instead of memorizing the names of the letters and dots. Although it’s a necessity to know the letters and dots by heart in order to read and pronounce the Hebrew letters, it’s not a must to memorize both the letters and the dots perfectly to start reading. Knowing the names of the letters and pronunciation sysmbols by heart wouldn’t help with reading. So, you can either choose to go through this part or skip it and start reading the examples.

Therefore, our book serves both as a reference book and a workbook for you.

This chapter also includes abundant examples of the symbols with each Hebrew letter. Here, every word is separated by syllables in order to facilitate the pronunciation; the original versions of the words are also given without any separation. This way, you can start reading the original words after you’ve mastered the separated syllables. English transliteration is also provided. Furthermore, the words are also provided without the symbols, just as how you’ll encounter them in daily life, for your final practice.

Our book is designed to help the reader recognize the letters and dots in a short amount of time with a large number of repetitions.

The English pronunciation of every (studied) word is given, so you will make sure you pronounce the words right. This way, you will comprehend the letters and the dots by applying/using them instead of memorizing their names.

The third chapter includes the numeric values information of the Hebrew letters. Frankly, this is not something related to reading Hebrew, but it’s always good to know how to convert your name in numbers, for instance.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 3,001円

Old Testament Theology Reading the Hebrew Bible as Christian Scripture【電子書籍】[ R. W. L. Moberly ]

A top Old Testament theologian known for his accessible and provocative writing probes what is necessary to understand and appropriate the Hebrew Bible as a fundamental resource for Christian theology and life today. This volume offers a creative example of theological interpretation, modeling a way of doing Old Testament theology that takes seriously both the nature of the biblical text as ancient text and also the questions and difficulties that arise as believers read this text in a contemporary context.

Walter Moberly offers an in-depth study of key Old Testament passages, highlighting enduring existential issues in the Hebrew Bible and discussing Jewish readings alongside Christian readings. The volume is representative of the content of Israel's Scripture rather than comprehensive, yet it discusses most of the major topics of Old Testament theology. Unveiling Eve Reading Gender in Medieval Hebrew Literature【電子書籍】[ Tova Rosen ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Selected by Choice magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title

Unveiling Eve is the first feminist inquiry into the Hebrew poetry and prose forms cultivated in Muslim and Christian Spain, Italy, and Provence in the eleventh through fourteenth centuries. In the Jewish Middle Ages, writing was an exclusively male competence, and textual institutions such as the study of scripture, mysticism, philosophy, and liturgy were men's sanctuaries from which women were banished. These domains of male expertiseーalongside belles lettres, on which Rosen's book focusesーserved as virtual laboratories for experimenting with concepts of femininity and masculinity, hetero- and homosexuality, feminization and virilization, transvestism and transsexuality. Reviewing texts as varied as love lyric, love stories, marriage debates, rhetorical contests, and liturgical and moralistic pieces, Tova Rosen considers the positions and positioning of female figures and female voices within Jewish male discourse.

The idolization and demonization of women present in these texts is read here against the background of scripture and rabbinic literature as well as the traditions of chivalry and misogyny in the hosting Islamic and Christian cultures. Unveiling Eve unravels the literary evidence of a patriarchal tradition in which women are routinely rendered nonentities, often positioned as abstractions without bodies or reified as bodies without subjectivities. Without rigidly following any one school of feminist thinking, Rosen creatively employs a variety of methodologies to describe and assess the texts' presentation of male sexual politics and delineate how women and concepts of gender were manipulated, fictionalized, fantasized, and poeticized. Inaugurating a new era of critical thinking in Hebrew literature, Unveiling Eve penetrates a field of medieval literary scholarship that has, until now, proven impervious to feminist criticism.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 7,608円

Reading Hebrew Bible Narratives【電子書籍】[ J. Andrew Dearman ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Reading Hebrew Bible Narratives introduces readers to narrative traditions of the Old Testament and to methods of interpreting them. Part of the Essentials of Biblical Studies series, this volume presents readers with an overview of exegesis by mainly focusing on a self-contained narrative to be read alongside the text. Through sustained interaction with the book of Ruth, readers have opportunities to engage a biblical book from multiple perspectives, while taking note of the wider implications of such perspectives for other biblical narratives. Other select texts from Hebrew Bible narratives, related by theme or content to matters in Ruth, are also examined, not only to assist in illustrating this method of approach, but also to offer reinforcement of reading skills and connections among different narrative traditions. Considering literary analysis, words and texts in context, and reception history, this brief introduction gives students an overview of how exegesis illuminates stories in the Bible.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 2,042円

Reading Hebrew The Language and the Psychology of Reading It【電子書籍】[ Joseph Shimron ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Over the last two decades, the study of languages and writing systems and their relationship to literacy acquisition has begun to spread beyond studies based mostly on English language learners. As the worldwide demand for literacy continues to grow, researchers from different countries with different language backgrounds have begun examining the connection between their language and writing system and literacy acquisition. This volume is part of this new, emerging field of research. In addition to reviewing psychological research on reading (the author's specialty), the reader is introduced to the Hebrew language: its structure, its history, its writing system, and the issues involved in being fluently literate in Hebrew.

Chapters 1-4 introduce the reader to the Hebrew language and word structure and focuses on aspects of Hebrew that have been specifically researched by experimental cognitive psychologists. The reader whose only interest is in the psychological mechanisms of reading Hebrew may be satisfied with these chapters.

Chapters 5-8 briefly surveys the history of the Hebrew language and its writing system, the origin of literacy in Hebrew as one of the first alphabetic systems, and then raises questions about the viability (or possibility) of having full-scale literacy in Hebrew. Together, the two sets of chapters present the necessary background for studying the psychology of reading Hebrew and literacy in Hebrew.

This volume is appropriate for anyone interested in comparative reading and writing systems or in the Hebrew language in particular. This includes linguists, researchers, and graduate students in such diverse fields as cognitive psychology, psycholinguistics, literacy education, English as a second language, and communication disorders.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 9,131円

The Reading Guide takes us weekly through the Holy Bible scriptures in the Tanakh, which is the Torah, Prophets, and writings, and shows corresponding scripture in the New Testament. Haggai 2:5-9 teaches about what we are seeing all over the world. The Glory of this New House will be greater than the former, for in it Yahweh will give us Peace "Shalom." We are that New House according to Hebrews 8:10. The Gospel of the Kingdom is from Genesis to Revelation, and includes the Feast Days which should be kept forever according to scripture. Using the weekly reading to go through the Bible and calendar helps us know the foundations and instructions for life. We need them to show love for our neighbor, and to move away from tradition which has lead to a lack of compassion and love. It was 150 years ago that the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution freed slaves in America. All types of human bondage ended. It was the seventh day of Hanukkah, December 18, 1865. We will again see the seventh day of Hanukkah on December 18, in 2017. The Civil War also ended in 1865. The Power of Equivocation Complex Readers and Readings of the Hebrew Bible【電子書籍】[ Amy Kalmanofsky ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

In The Power of Equivocation Amy Kalmanofsky addresses the Bible's inherent complexity as well as the complexity of those who seek to read the Bible critically, generously, and honestly.

The Bible invites what Kalmanofsky identifies as equivocal readings--readings that do not reach neat conclusions related to ideology or character. Kalmanofsky demonstrates the Bible's complicated artistry through her close readings of six biblical narratives that feature women: she examines culpability in the story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife and shows how the Bible presents neither figure as a hero or villain; considers how the Bible's portrayal of Hannah both conforms to and also defies the Bible's patriarchal norms; how the Bible affords the rejected King Saul compassion and respect through a powerful yet unlawful medium from En-Dor; how Queen Esther overpowers men to become the equivocal hero of her eponymous book; how Tamar in Genesis 38, like Hannah, conforms to and challenges the Bible's patriarchal norms and how, like Esther, she is the equivocal hero of her story; and how the Bible presents Bathsheba as a complicated figure, both vulnerable and powerful.

Kalmanofsky draws from the challenges she personally feels as a feminist, as a Jew, and as a scholar to argue that equivocal readers like herself are best equipped to see the Bible's complex artistry. Equivocal feminist-religious readers are suspicious and generous readers who can expose the ways in which biblical texts empower and disempower women and who can provide essential insight about the Bible's theology and ideology.

Through her close readings, Kalmanofsky models what it means to be equivocal readers of an equivocal Bible. The Power of Equivocation is marked by honesty and the celebration of a text that can never be read just one way.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 3,417円

Reading Hebrews Missiologically The Missionary Motive, Message, and Methods of Hebrews【電子書籍】[ Abeneazer G. Urga ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Gaining New Insights from Hebrews

God’s interactions with Israel were a foreshadowing of the perfect reality in the person of Jesus: absolutely God and absolutely human. Jesus came to earth to establish his kingdom and all that God had initiated in the old covenant. There is a continuity of theological understanding as we move from the Old Testament to the letter sent to the Christians in Rome.

The discussion on the theology of mission in the New Testament usually focuses on Jesus and Paul, with minimal attention given to the General Epistles. However, Reading Hebrews Missiologically tries to fill that gap and focuses on the theology of mission in the book of Hebrews and fleshes out the unique contribution it has to the discussion of a New Testament theology of mission. The twelve contributorsーfrom various theological, geographical, and missiological contextsーexplore the missionary motive, the missionary message, and the missionary method of the Epistle to the Hebrews.

All Scripture can be read missiologically, and the letter to the Hebrews, with its emphasis on the supremacy of Christ, is no exception. We pray that this book will inspire fresh approaches to practical mission in the world today.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 1,174円

Reading Hebrews at Forty【電子書籍】[ Jiyeon Lee ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

I wrote down my thoughts after reading the famous quote from Hebrews that says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." There are times in life when we may lose hope, but reflecting on this passage reminds us to hold on to faith in the things we hope for. Since everything visible derives from the invisible, we should look at ourselves as if we possess something when we seemingly have nothing and nurture hope.

Human maturity blossoms during moments of stillness. People often mistakenly believe that having a lot of money will take care of their old age. Through reading and contemplation, we can attain human maturity, and within it, have faith in the unseen, allowing us to embrace hope that is not visible to others.

As we go through each day, hoping for a better today than yesterday, I hope that this book, written with that in mind, can be of help to you.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 2,800円

Reading Hebrews and 1 Peter with the African American Great Migration Diaspora, Place and Identity【電子書籍】[ Dr. Jennifer T. Kaalund ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Kaalund examines the constructed and contested Christian-Jewish identities in Hebrews and 1 Peter through the lens of the “New Negro,” a diasporic identity similarly constructed and contested during the Great Migration in the early 20th century. Like the identity “Christian,” the New Negro emerged in a context marked by instability, creativity, and the need for a sense of permanence in a hostile political environment.

Upon examination, both identities also show complex internal diversity and debate that disrupts any simple articulation as purely resistant (or accommodating) to its hegemonic and oppressive environment. Kaalund's investigation into the construction of the New Negro highlights this multiplicity and contends that the rhetoric of place, race, and gender were integral to these processes of inventing a way of being in the world that was seemingly not reliant on one's physical space. Putting these issues into dialogue with 1 Peter and Hebrews allows for a reading of the formation of Christian identity as similarly engaging the rhetoric of place and race in constructive and contested ways.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 4,590円

Study Hebrews in its Second Temple Context

Following the proven model established in Reading Romans in Context, Reading Mark in Context, and Reading Revelation in Context, this book brings together a series of accessible essays that compare and contrast the theology and hermeneutical practices of the book of Hebrews with various early Jewish literature.

Going beyond an introduction that merely surveys historical events and theological themes, this textbook examines individual passages in Second Temple Jewish literature in order to illuminate the ideas and emphases of Hebrews' varied discourses. Following the rhetorical progression of Hebrews, each chapter in this textbook:

pairs a major unit of Hebrews with one or more sections of a thematically related Jewish text

introduces and explores the historical and theological nuances of the comparative text

shows how the ideas in the comparative text illuminate those expressed in Hebrews

In addition to the focused comparison provided in the essays, Reading Hebrews in Context offers other student-friendly features that help them engage broader discussions, including an introductory chapter that familiarizes students with the world and texts of Second Temple Judaism and a glossary of important terms. The end of each chapter contains a list of other thematically-relevant Second Temple Jewish texts recommended for further study and a focused bibliography pointing students to critical editions and higher-level discussions in scholarly literature they might use to undertake their own comparative studies.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 1,763円
