Respiratory Alkalosis, A Simple Guide To The Condition, Diagnosis, Treatment And Related Conditions【電子書籍】[ Kenneth Kee ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

This book describes Respiratory Alkalosis, Diagnosis and Treatment and Related Diseases
Respiratory alkalosis is a disorder caused by a low level of carbon dioxide in the blood because of breathing excessively (main cause).
Respiratory alkalosis happens when the patient breathes too fast or too deep and carbon dioxide levels fall too low.
This induces the pH of the blood to rise and become too alkaline.
Breathing too fast can induce a person to go into respiratory alkalosis.
This happens when a person's pH level is higher than 7.45.
Causes
A person may breathe too fast because of anxiety, overdosing on certain medicines, or using a ventilator.
Frequent causes are:

Anxiety or panic

Fever

Over-breathing (hyperventilation)

Pregnancy (this is normal)

Pain

Tumor

Trauma

Severe anemia

Liver disease

Overdose of certain medicines, such as salicylates, progesterone
Any lung disease that results in breathlessness can also produce respiratory alkalosis (such as pulmonary embolism and asthma).
Panic attacks and anxiety are the most frequent causes of hyperventilation.
They are not the only possible causes.

Heart attack

Pain

Drug use

Asthma

Fever

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Infection

Pulmonary embolism

Pregnancy
At its simplest definition, respiratory alkalosis almost always indicates that a person is breathing so fast that they are getting rid of excess carbon dioxide.
Carbon dioxide is an acid.
Because of this carbon dioxide loss, the body's pH may be more alkaline, the opposite of acidic.
Since some of the body's processes function in a tightly regulated range of pH levels, it is important that people keep a pH balance that is close to normal.
In some cases, a doctor may believe that having a more alkaline pH less dangerous than having an acidic one.
Some causes of respiratory alkalosis can be high-risk and need more urgent medical attention.
Doctors will normally classify the possible causes of respiratory alkalosis into 3 categories.
All of these causes hyperventilation, or breathing too fast.
These 3 categories are:
A. Related to a medical condition
Various medical disorders can cause respiratory alkalosis such as:

Atrial flutter

Panic disorder

Liver disease

Pneumothorax, which happens when air in the pleural cavity induces a collapsed lung

Pulmonary embolism

Overdose of salicylate medications, such as aspirin
Pregnancy can also produce respiratory alkalosis.
This is because a woman is likely to breathe faster during the third trimester due to the needs of the growing fetus.
B. Accidentally induced
Occasionally, a person receiving breathing support through a ventilator may show signs of respiratory alkalosis.
This indicates that the ventilator is supplying too many breaths, or breaths that are too large, and the person exhales out extra carbon dioxide.
C. Purposefully induced for therapy
If a person has a disorder that produces acidosis, a doctor may make modifications to their ventilator settings to try to help him or her breathe out the excess carbon dioxide.
This can help get a person's pH levels back to normal.
Diagnosis is when when a person's pH level is higher than 7.45.
Treatment
Patients with hyperventilation syndrome can benefit from reassurance, re-breathing into a paper bag during acute episodes, and treatment for underlying psychological anxiety.
Sedatives and antidepressants should be given for patients not responding to conservative treatment
In patients presenting with hyperventilation, a systematic approach should be used to exclude possibly life-threatening causes first before diagnosing less serious disorders.

TABLE OF CONTENT
Introduction
Chapter 1 Respiratory Alkalosis
Chapter 2 Causes
Chapter 3 Symptoms
Chapter 4 Diagnosis
Chapter 5 Treatment
Chapter 6 Prognosis
Chapter 7 Respiratory Acidosis
Chapter 8 Hyperventilation Syndrome
Epilogue
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 327円

Metabolic Alkalosis, A Simple Guide To The Condition, Diagnosis, Treatment And Related Conditions【電子書籍】[ Kenneth Kee ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

This book describes Metabolic Alkalosis, Diagnosis and Treatment and Related Diseases

Acid Base and electrolytes balance is an important topic for any doctor taking care of metabolic and lung diseases as these can affect the heart and kidney.
Every doctor should know how to treat these conditions!

Alkalosis is a disorder in which the body fluids have too much base (alkali).
This is the opposite of acidosis (excess acid).
Metabolic alkalosis is a disorder that is indicated by a higher pH level in the tissues that is well over the range within which it should be.
The pH value in a normal person is moderately alkaline, within the range of 7.36 ? 7.44.
It is within this range that the body is designed to function to an optimum point.
Alkalosis happens when the pH is >7.45.
It mainly indicates a rise in the concentration of serum bicarbonate (HCO3?).
Reduced carbon dioxide (an acid) level or raised bicarbonate (a base) level makes the body too alkaline, a disorder called alkalosis.
There are different forms of alkalosis.

Respiratory alkalosis is produced by a low carbon dioxide level in the blood.
Causes are:
a. Fever
b. Being at a high altitude
c. Lack of oxygen
d. Liver disease
e. Lung disease, which causes the patient to breathe faster (hyperventilate)
f. Aspirin poisoning

Metabolic alkalosis is produced by too much bicarbonate in the blood.
It can also happen due to certain kidney diseases.
a. Hypo-chloremic alkalosis is produced by an extreme lack or loss of chloride, such as from persistent vomiting.
b. Hypo-kalemic alkalosis is produced by the kidneys' response to an extreme lack or loss of potassium.
This can happen from taking certain water pills (diuretics).
c. Compensated alkalosis happens when the body restores the acid-base balance to normal in cases of alkalosis, but bicarbonate and carbon dioxide levels stay abnormal.
Compensation for metabolic alkalosis happens mainly in the lungs, which keep the carbon dioxide (CO2) through slower breathing, or hypoventilation
d. Uncompensated metabolic alkalosis indicates that the bicarbonate level stay high.
Patients need immediate ventilator support and close monitoring to get rid of the high carbon dioxide that can cause life-threatening complications
Adverse effects begin to happen when the level of human blood becomes baser than acid, adverse effects will happen.
The severity of the signs of this disease is dependent on the degree of alkalinity in the human body.
This disease is normally produced by factors that reduce the amount of fluids in the body, such as:

Vomiting

Overuse of laxatives

Excessive urination, resulting from use of diuretic medicines
The loss of fluids can cause a sharp fall in the level of sodium and potassium, which give rise to symptoms of metabolic alkalosis.
Some other metabolic alkalosis causes are:

Use of steroids

Excessive use of antacids

Overuse of alkaline drugs, like Bicarbonate
Diagnosis:

Arterial blood gas analysis

Electrolytes test, such as basic metabolic panel to confirm alkalosis
A urine chloride ion concentration can be useful if the cause of the disease is difficult to diagnose from physical examination and the medical history of the patient, such as:

The presence of drug use and

Hypertension.
Treatment
To treat alkalosis, the doctor needs to first find the underlying cause.
Once the cause is found out and the disorder is detected to be metabolic alkalosis, the aim of treatment is to correct the acid-base imbalance
Medicines and salt-water solution requires to be given to patients through an intravenous line.
The use of ammonium chloride or hydrochloric acid may become necessary

TABLE OF CONTENT
Introduction
Chapter 1 Metabolic Alkalosis
Chapter 2 Causes
Chapter 3 Symptoms
Chapter 4 Diagnosis
Chapter 5 Treatment
Chapter 6 Prognosis
Chapter 7 Respiratory Alkalosis
Chapter 8 Acidosis
Epilogue
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 327円

If You Ask Me【電子書籍】[ William P. Kalosieh ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Over the course of 30+ years Dr. William P. Kalosieh has counseled numerous individuals, families and couples in the throes of a crisis whether part of normal human development or unexpected and causing the normal balance of routine daily life to falter. Counseling sessions typically favor the emotional over the rational and often preclude the therapist from educating the client about the issue, problem, concern that brought him/her to therapy. In this compendium of articles Dr. Kalosieh writes about not only the issues and concerns he frequently encountered in his practice but also about some notions that have fascinated him for many years. The articles range from personal, emotional development to interpersonal dynamics both normal and abnormal or healthy and unhealthy. The sequence is merely conventional and the reader is at liberty to select a topic or concern he/she wishes to explore. The author does not present a system to interventions based upon his own theory of personality and marriage, rather he utilizes the techniques, strategies and theories of highly regarded experts in various fields of psychotherapy. The articles are intended to be above all helpful to individuals, couples and families as they face the challenge of maturity, communication and raising a family. Promoting a peaceful, harmonious village requires peace of mind and heart in the individuals.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 468円
